love local – peachy parade

Insta love

With my love for buying local, today I bring you the other creative mind of the awesome Mothers Day Raffle that was created supporting Geelong Mums.

Jess from Peachy Parade worked with Emma and Ali from Alma Designs to come up with the fantastic opportunity to win so many amazing Instagram business prizes, with the fundraising going to the amazing Geelong Mums.

1. Tell me about Peachy Parade; what do you sell?
My main focus is making unique and beautiful baby mobiles that will last well past the baby years. Many mobiles are quite baby-ish and get packed up when the cot is packed away but my mobiles are not only beautiful in a baby’s nursery but look amazing in big kids rooms. I also make other paper products such as garlands and wall hangings and I can customise colours to suit any room.
Some other products that I hand make are mini calico teepees which are a perfect way to spark a child’s imagination and linen black board bags for entertainment on the go.

2. What made you begin Peachy Parade?
I’ve been crafty ever since I can remember and I’m the type of person that if I can’t find what I’m looking for, I’ll have a go at making it. When I had my kids Archie and Ellie, I would often make things for them and my friends would always say that I should start a business and sell my creations. Then one day, about 10 months ago, my husband came home with a flyer for an upcoming school market and said to me, it’s now or never! I had 3 weeks to come up with a business name, logo, business cards and make all of my products. It was a busy time but it was so much fun actually doing what I’d talked about for years!

3.How can people buy your creations? Do you ship nationally and internationally?
You can purchase through my website www.peachyparade.bigcartel.com or head into the amazing local kids store called Ryder Loves Miller, located at 263 Myers Street, East Geelong 3219.
I ship anywhere within Australia through my website and I can also ship Internationally however please send me an email to peachyparade@bigpond.com for an International shipping quote.
4. What designers inspire you and who influences your style?
It’s hard to only name a few! I get inspiration everyday from the Instagram community and I absolutely love following mum’s working hard to build up very successful businesses through social media.

5. As one of the creative minds behind this incredible raffle, what made you want to help the Geelong community and how can people get involved?
When Emma and I met for the first time a few months ago we started talking about how many talented businesses Geelong has to offer and we talked about trying to find a way to showcase them to a wider community. We also both knew about Geelong Mums and the amazing contribution they make to the Geelong Community. So from that one conversation, Insta Love was born. A way to showcase our local talent to the world and at the same time, raise much needed funds for a wonderful organisation.

mothers day community

Insta love

I love what the Instagram community has developed into and the way in which people have come together for the greater good. Here in Geelong is no exception with 67 stores coming together to support an amazing organisation Geelong Mums helping new mothers in need, especially as we approach mothers day.

I am in full support of what they are trying to achieve and as someone who loves supporting local I thought I would showcase some of the incredible businesses involved.

I contacted Emma from Alma Custom Designs who together with Peachy Parade came up with this incredible raffle to support Geelong Mums.

1. Tell me about Alma Custom Designs; what do you sell?
We love creating items for the home – one of a kind tram scrolls, gorgeous prints (large and small) for young and old, invitations, anniversary gifts, vouchers and so much more.

2. What made you begin Alma designs?
About 5 years ago I wanted to get a custom-made tram scroll made for my husband but didn’t want to spend the $800 it was going to cost me. When complaining about this to Alison she looked at me and asked me why I hadn’t asked her to design it for me? Alison is a graphic designer. So she designed it and we got it printed. It is amazing and still hangs on our wall. I told her she should start selling them but she said she didn’t want to start another business on the side, she already had two others on the go at this stage and worked full-time. But she did say that if I wanted to create the business in partnership with her and I dealt with customers, etc and she did the designing that maybe we could sort something out. Last year it finally came true and “Alma” was born. Al = Alison Ma = Emma. So Alma started off selling custom-made tram scrolls and very quickly branched off into prints. We LOVE making custom-made items for people and especially love seeing them in their homes.

3.How can people buy your creations? Do you ship nationally and internationally?
You can purchase through our website www.almacustomdesigns.com
You can also pick up some of our prints through:

Weddings at Tiffany’s – Maleny, QLD
Ripe Homewares – Mudgee and Dubbo, NSW
Just Because – Highton, Victoria

We have free delivery Australia wide and are happy to ship internationally but need to be emailed for a quote first.
4. What designers inspire you and who influences your style?
The whole IG community inspires us all the time in so many ways.
5. As the creative minds behind this incredible raffle, what made you want to help the Geelong community?
I had met with @peachyparade and we had wanted to support Geelong Mums in any way that we could. We both know what a great deal they do for Geelong families but were aware they were in need of some much more to help the ever-growing need in our local community.
We spent a long time trying to figure out how we could support Geelong Mums using our IG accounts and without it just being a basic loop and win giveaway. When we started thinking about it we realised we knew a heap of Geelong based IG stores and when we started a list we were blown away with how many we came up with.
When we approached the stores on our list everyone was so eager to be a part of our raffle and not only said yes straight away but was so generous in the items they were offering.
I am loving how 67 Geelong based IG stores have come together to support Geelong Mums and have shown so much passion in supporting their local community.

terindah estate

Geelong

A few weekends ago now we headed to Terindah Estate, a beautiful winery on the Bellarine Peninsula.

We went for breakfast on an amazing morning with the sun shining and great company. I had the breakfast trifle which was delicious and the best part was it did not include sultanas!! I really can’t stand those things, and usually don’t get to enjoy a yummy muesli or granola as they seem to always include the little brown things! This one had yoghurt and berries and just made the morning even better.

Andrew and I went exploring the grounds and snapped a few photos as we looked around. It’s incredible looking over the ocean and seeing the vineyards. We both commented it would be an incredible wedding destination as view is amazing plus the buildings have the perfect vibe.

I went with comfort on this particular day due to the heat. I felt summer colours would be fun (plus I had forgotten I had this top!!). I have lived in my Senso sandals this summer, as they really are so comfortable plus look awesome! I look back at photos and they seem to be in so many of them but I couldn’t be happier with my purchase.

Have you been to Terindah Estate? What did you think?

stomp apparel

I love staying fit and healthy and I try to live an active life. As a result I like to have good active wear to ensure I can be comfortable while exercising, whether that be doing Pilates or yoga, boxing, or going for walks; especially along the beach as I am lucky enough to live so close.

We all know how much I love local and believe in supporting local businesses; I was so excited to discover a range of incredible active wear created here in Geelong, Stomp Apparel.

Stomp was created by a family motivated by a healthy lifestyle wanting affordable, fun and comfortable active wear; to not only sell to others but they too wanted to wear.

I was lucky enough to try out some of their products and I couldn’t be happier. It suits exactly what I am after as well as been comfortable, bright (as I like to stand out when I’m working out!) and really practically made with purpose in mind, (for example the leggings have a pocket at the back to place your key!)

I cant wait to show you more of the active wear in coming weeks!

It was all happening in Geelong over the weekend with so much on to see and do.

The Avalon Airshow started Friday and went right through the weekend. In Geelong West on Saturday was Pako Festa, celebrating all things multicultural. Sunday on the Bellarine was the Wallington Strawberry Fair.

I headed to the inaugural Sustainable Hook and Vine Festival Saturday. It was all about seafood and wine and the organic and sustainable practice of fishing. Music was played throughout the afternoon with wine samples on offer and food and drink to be purchased. Picnic blankets covered the grounds and everyone was enjoying the beautiful sunshine on the last day of summer!

I tried the salt and pepper calamari from Uber Mama and it was delicious! Served with an asian slaw it was a perfect lunch. Andrew tried the pork belly also from Uber Mama and he too thought it was delicious! I think we will be heading to Angelsea to try some more!

stylish wedding

gingham print

I love going to weddings. Feeling the love that is in the air; the happiness on both the couples faces and the amount of fun to be had celebrating the beautiful couple.

The wedding I went to last weekend was no exception! It was beautiful, every detail had been thought of and it was one of the most stylish weddings I have been too!

Fiona and Jonny were so happy and they radiated the love they had for each other.

Fiona and Jonny

The ceremony was held on the beach and as you walked down to the sand you were able to take your shoes off and grab a pair of thongs to put on. On the way off the sand there was even brushes provided to wipe your sandy toes! So thoughtful and brilliant details.

Inside was no exception with creative name tags, little bags for the cutlery and stunning flowers down the middle of the tables provided by a beautiful Geelong Florist Smellies.

I choose to wear a gingham dress that I found on ASOS and even scored it on sale. I am loving this cut at the moment and seem to be wearing it a lot. It is so flattering and shows off my frame.

I am a big believer in not wearing white to a wedding. I find it rude, however I was assured this dress was not white and that it was perfect for a wedding. I felt great and loved popping the dress with these beautiful watermelon strappy heels. They gave just the right tough!

The weather was perfect and we all had so much fun and partied into the night.

I am incredibly lucky to know a fantastic photographer who took all the photos for the wedding as well. I highly recommend you go have a look at her page! Katie Wheeler Photography is a local Geelong women and does an incredible job of capturing the moment. As a dear friend of mine Katie took some beautiful shots of my outfit and I am sooo happy with how they have come up! So you will notice there is an overload of photos today!

frankie say relax

Frankie say Relax

It’s no secret that I love local and love talking about what we have here in Geelong. I was very excited to see an online business create a shop front on one my favourite Geelong Streets, Pakington Street. Frankie say Relax is a beautiful home wares store with incredible products.

Frankie Say Relax opened last week and I went along to check out the bright yellow store!

The minute you walk in you get a great sense of style and know these ladies know their stuff with incredible pieces staring at you asking to buy them! They have opened up a shipping container and it’s fit out has been done really well done! With great detail to all areas from the AstroTurf as you walk in to the hidden cupboard with the laser cut timber.

My favourite thing in he shop was this incredible print below. I loved the colours as well as the saying! I also loved the Partos and Pike clothing line they have available, The Hello Lover cushion…. ok I wanted the whole store!

What do you think of the store?

the geelong cup

St Frock Skirt

At the last-minute I decided to attend the 2014 Geelong Cup. It is our big local race event but it wasn’t until I got offered a ticket did I think I would go. 😉

Then came the challenge, trying to put together an outfit and of course I needed a matching fascinator to go with the look! I had brought this beautiful skirt from St Frock not that long ago (I feel in love when I saw it) and thought this was the perfect event to debut the stunning skirt. I decided I needed a headpiece needed to match and that’s when the fun began. With one full day before the cup to go I messaged a local Geelong milliner, Lalka who I come across through Instagram. I wrote a plea saying sorry it was last-minute but did she have anything in blue to match my beautiful skirt. Not only did Lisa say she would help, she custom-made me a design one day before the event! And I loved it!! I couldn’t have asked for a more stunning fascinator and I highly recommend having a look at her pieces especially if you are needing something for the big Melbourne events. Find her Facebook page here

I even had to go buy my top on the day! I have already had several comments on my cami and I knew exactly what I wanted as I already have one in black! It’s from Bardot and is a great shape and fit. Perfect for any age!

The main reason I wanted to go along to the Geelong Cup was to see the fashion. As my local town I wanted to show of some of the incredible pieces to you my readers! I took photos of some of the inspiring outfits on the day, and you’ll find them below.

The Moore Sisters

These four sisters were so lovely and I loved their outfits. Their head wear is what caught my attention and I asked where they found such incredible pieces. Turns our their mum is an incredible Geelong milliner and made them all. Find Moore Millinery Designs on facebook here. Bronwyn, Andrea, Courtney and Shandell all look amazing! Two of them (Andrea and Courtney ) won places (1st and 3rd) in Fashions on the Field.

Bree Laughlin

Bree was from Country Racing and was doing  fashion blogger commentary for Country Racing Fashion Blogger. Her dress is from Cue, shoes from Witchery and her headwear which caught my attention was Jack and Jill Millinery.

Dearne Bell

Dearne was in the marquee that I was in and what caught my attention was her incredible fascniator made from feathers. I should have taken the photo outside the marquee to capture the real beauty of the feathers but she looked fantastic! I asked her about her outfit and she was a great example of finding great products at chain stores and putting them all together to look fab!

Dearne Bell

Karen Mason

Karen is from BayFM (Geelong Local Radio) and was dressed by one of the fashion students from The Gordon. She looked wonderful and again made it to the final of Fashions on the Field in this beautiful dress. Karen and Hayden both looked great. Hayden too made it through to the men’s final of fashions on the field!

Kimberley Riddett

It was Kimberley’s fascinator that caught my attention. A beautiful piece with great colours and so well constructed!

Jessie McInnes

I had meet Jessie before as she has just finished as a fashion student at The Gordon. She designed and created her outfit and even made it through to the final in Fashions on the Field!

Jessie McInnes

Although only a few beautiful ladies above there was some class this year about the races which is great to see as Geelong can cop a lot of slack about our fashion!

I am really looking forward to bringing you more of what Geelong is all about in upcoming posts!

bright, sunshine, flowers and smiles

Sunshine

Bright, sunshine, flowers and smiles; that  was what my weekend was about! I had such an incredible weekend, and the best part is I had an extra day with taking Monday off work!

On Friday I was spoilt with flowers sent to me at work by my beautiful friend, with the note “fresh flowers to brighten your day!” and that they did! It made the weekend feel like it was going to be wonderful.

I was in such a great mood from my surprise I grabbed Andrew and called my girlfriend and headed off to Union Street Wine Bar for a cheeky red straight after work. It was so nice to just unwind before launching into the weekend.  As we sat enjoying a glass of red I noticed I had an instagram message and I was very excited to see I had won some beautiful flowers from She’s a Wildflower thanks to King of the Castle’s first birthday! Aren’t they amazing?

Winning

Saturday saw us head of to watch the AFL prelim final with some mates which was great to catch up and with our team out it didn’t matter who won; although I was going for Port!!  Followed by a yummy dinner in Melbourne.

Sunday the sun was shinning, the Fox in Flats style challenge was bright and it just made it a beautiful day. I headed off to King of the Castle to pick up my beautiful flowers and enjoy  the glorious sunshine and really enjoyed the day!

ryder loves miller

We can be heros

Last Tuesday evening I attended the VIP Opening of Ryder Loves Miller, Geelong’s newest boutique. This boutique is a beautiful children’s wear, homewares and furniture store located in East Geelong. With incredible children’s wear , beautiful prints, furniture and fun this store is set to have people flocking to the doors.

Bethany started Ryder love Miller as an online store and has now been successful enough to turn this into a retail store. The name derives from her two handsome boys Ryder and Miller. I loved meeting them on the night and even got a picture of Bethany with her youngest son Miller (see below).

The store is stocking cute Children brands such as Macaroon Kids (seen here), Rock Your Baby, Incy Interiors, Little Quarters (another Geelong brand), Fable Baby and more!

I wish Bethany all the very best and recommend if you live in Geelong to get down to the mum friendly store! You can also follow Ryder loves Miller on Facebook or Instagram.
