its time to celebrate

its time to celebrate
Kirsty

So much has been going on in my life…. To be honest when does it really stop? But currently everything has been happening at once!

I’m back at work! (think of the money 😉 )
My little girl turned one! (How did that go so fast!!!)
House hunting (well trying too…)
Birthday parties (1st ones!)
Catch ups…. the list goes on!

Plus this blog of mine has turned 4!!
I really need to celebrate that! 4 years I have been doing this passion project that is so much fun and I love writing plus meeting incredible people along the way.

I still have so many plans for where I will go and how I will take this to the next level… All I need is to fit in a few more hours into my day and hopefully that can come true!
So much to tell you all, so much to write…  Where to begin and how to accomplish! That is my goal of right now!

I have so many incredible Geelong stories about people I am meeting and experiences that I am getting to do now to tell you all about them.

Last week I meet an incredible lady from Geelong that designs designer bags! The quality is outstanding and they are a must for every girl who has dreamt of a designer bag but for an incredible price…. I have so much more to tell you about her, and that will be coming in the next post. For now you need to know the name Cecily Clune, and if you are a Geelong local you can go purchase one from the pop up shop now on in Westfield Geelong!

Not to mention my Christmas (And birthday!!) wishlists will be coming soon!

my quick 5 step make-up routine

Make up Bag

I have found that some mornings (ok most) I have a short amount of time to get ready to get myself out the door to where I need to be.
Mum life means I need a quick but effective routine. I need make-up products that help make me look and feel good and quickly do the job.

I’ve never worn heavy make-up, always kept things simple and gone for a natural look. Of late this has been my five step process

  1. Base
Foundation is something I don’t often wear.  Actually only if I have a special event. A BB/CC cream have been my base now for a little while. I was gifted his product but I have loved the glow and feel of it on my face. Not to heavy and just enough coverage.
    Instaflawless
  2. Eyes
My eyes are a must. I don’t feel awake unless I have eyeliner on. I don’t know why and where it came from but I must have my eyes done to feel good.
I actually have found it hard to find a good eyeliner. My pet peeve is when they smudge and leave black marks. This one has been doing the job (for now) but I am keen to find one I love.

Any tips/good eyeliner are welcome as this is a nonnegotiable step in my routine!!

  3. Bronzer
I love summer and part of that is having that bronzed look about me. Where I live this is not possible so a good bronzer does the trick. I have used the Body Shop bronzer for years now and love the look it gives. Still natural but with that summer glow. It’s a must in my bag to make me feel awake and ready to take on the day.

  4. Highlighter
I’m very lucky that my BFF does an amazing job at makeup. She has the right touch and I love how she makes me feel. It was her that introduced me to the Nars highlighter (and more to the point taught me how to apply) and again I love that glowed sun-kissed feel it leaves.
    Highlighter
  5. Lips
Lipstick again is something I don’t often wear. If I do its generally a nude but I still love wearing a good gloss to give me a shimmer on my lips.
It doesn’t help Andrew hates lipstick. No that it should stop me from wearing but I  don’t reach for it.
I was gifted this beautiful balm, and I love it. It’s  almost empty and I would happily buy again! It gives the final touch to make me feel ready to go.

beanie love

beanie love

Beanie Love

On a bad hair day I like to make life easy and add a beanie or a hat or even a headband. It is not only a quick fix but a look that is fun as well.

I have learnt that sometimes there isn’t time to wash your hair, even to do a proper hairstyle as you need to be out of the door. This is how this look went down. We had to be out of the house by 9 am and the beanie was the solution. Although I do love them anyway to stay warm in winter and they look so good!

I seem to be wearing four/five colours on a regular basis of late, but I still love adding a pop of colour. (even if that colour is one I have been living in) This jacket was a favourite I bought two seasons ago but love that it still works and brings some bright life to my otherwise dark outfit. I love when that happens. You spend good money on a jacket and it still keeps working in with everything you own.  That is why you make sure you invest in key pieces as they really will last through the seasons!

Flats…. they seem to have become my new obsession and who would have thought. I see other bloggers living in heels and don’t know how they do it sometimes running after little people and my bubba not even walking yet! I am loving the change-up and will never lose my love for heels, but will always be practical, especially  when walking around our beautiful town with my little family.

time

talking mum

Time… Something I think I have yet it goes by so quickly!

I love writing this blog. I find it fun, exciting and love sharing my thoughts with the world; yet somehow it gets neglected and forgotten about and pushed aside.

Maybe I should have called this post balance… Finding that balance of looking after your baby girl; cooking meals; doing washing; exercise; catching up with friends, family time and even trying to stay up to date with world news; all seems to pile on top of each other and I sit back and wonder how do I fit it all in.

I’ve tried really hard not to pick up my phone anymore in front of little miss. I don’t want her to think that mum has a phone stuck to her hand, or that I don’t want her undivided attention. So I’ve been putting aside and not checking social media as much. This does make me feel like I miss out on things and have now noticed silly Instagram has changed from a chronological scroll to anywhere and I HATE that! I want it in order and I want to see everyone I follow feeds!!!!!

I have tried to work on the computer while she sits and plays but again I don’t want her to think I have to be in front of a screen, and I get the guilt’s when I see her looking around to make sure I’m watching her! she smiles and always checks I’m seeing her latest trick! It’s so cute and very distracting! 😉

The other thing about time is that I have three more months until I go back to work… That still seems to be a while away but I know it’s going to fly past and gets me thinking about what I really want to do. I love been a mum, yet I do want to work too. Have that life/work balance. What is it that I really want to do?

So I ask you… How do you find the time to fit everything in? How do you prioritize?

7 mother’s day gift ideas

Mothers Day

My very first mother’s day is approaching which is very exciting! It’s a day for me to reflect on what an incredible time I have had so far with so much more to come. The mostly ups, occasional downs, but most of all the love for this little human being has been incredible.

I always knew I wanted to be a mum but until I had my little girl, I really didn’t know just how much love I had to offer this amazing miracle of mine!

I thought I would put together my top 7 ideas (maybe even a hint 😉 ) of gifts for not only local Geelong mums but for anyway thinking about what to get their mum for mother’s day!Frankie and I

1. A post natal massage from The Hermosa Room

I was lucky enough to get a massage from Lydia during my pregnancy and it was incredible! Lydia specializes in both pre and post natal massage and I highly recommend! I am hoping I may get that post natal one… They are really relaxing and make you feel so good and is a great gift for either those expecting or that need a good relax from breastfeeding and picking up babies!
The Hermosa Room is based in Torquay and there is a terrific Mothers Day special at the moment!

Hermosa Room

2. A customised print from Alma Designs

I love prints and what Alma Design create are so special! I already have a couple of their prints but there is always room for more right?!

3. Active-wear from Balance Geelong

I’ve been doing lots of exercise of late, walking seems to be a great way to catch up with fellow mums plus getting back into shape! With a coffee stop always added on, it’s important to look good too! Hence a great new active wear wardrobe is exactly what I need!

4. High Tea at the Vue Grand Queenscliff

I love high tea. It’s one of my favourite things to do and I always take my mum and mum-in-law each year somewhere for high tea (I’m so lucky they get along so well!)
This year it’s about me too.. and somewhere local will be great to try! I haven’t been here, so always keen to try somewhere new!

afternoon-tea-at-Hilton

5. Body products from Natural Supply Co

I love natural products and possibly why I love these ladies so much! I have changed to all natural cleaning products from them which I love, but would also love to put the natural scrubs on the list for a bit of “me” time!

Plus these ladies have put together a mothers day gift guide on their website too with the code MUMLOVE getting you 15% off!

NSC

6. A watch from The Horse

Already owning a watch from The Horse and loving it… One can never have to many watches right?!

7. Another pair of Manolo Blahniks

A girl can only dream right?! Maybe I have to wait until 10 years of marriage!

king of the castle

KOTC #2

When I go out to a cafe or restaurant I look for three things:

  • Food selection
  • Coffee (yes now that I drink it!)
  • Is it pram friendly?

Now yes this third point isn’t something I have always looked for, it has become a new one on my list. However I have discovered that I like to know if a place is designed to take the pram, can kids go or should I be leaving little miss at home and going with grown ups?

As I have wanted to for a while now I am going to tell you each week about places to go and try around Geelong, Bellarine and the Surf Coast.

To start off I thought I would choose one on my favourite places in Geelong; on Pakington Street;  King of the Castle (KOTC)

I’ve got to know Robbie the owner and I am always so impressed with what he puts into the place and his great ideas! Always helping charity and helping other Geelong businesses it’s so impressive!

the menu

Although the menu is fairly new (they change seasonal) I have been working my way through and trying lots of the delicious food.
There are simple items as well as yum treats, plus great vegetarian options which is always very welcomed by me.

Whether a sweet tooth or after something savoury there are so many choices.

Some of my current favs are the Chill Beans; Black Rice Pudding and the simple Avo on toast!
If you have a sweet tooth the waffles are a must!

KOTC #4
KOTC #3

coffee

I only started drinking coffee 12 months ago when it became my pregnancy craving. Weird right?!

It’s good coffee and they do pretty much anything that’s in vogue (I say this as I call my brother a Melbourne coffee snob and he now drinks “Magics” and they make them! )

I am partial to a Mocha but my favourite from here is the Affogatos!! You can choose any flavour gelato (Which are all yum on their own) with a shot of coffee!! Amazing!!

KOTC #1

venue

KOTC is pram friendly and they are very accommodating to helping us mums in and out of the venue if the door is down on a cold day!

That is not to say you can’t enjoy a coffee with just grown ups but it’s great to know anyone can go along!

all happening in gtown

Look

Of late, I’ve been asked a lot about my blog and what makes me different from other blogs.
Yes, it started as a fashion blog, but I also want to reflect on the goings on in my often underrated home town of Geelong (also known as Gtown!)

I get asked a lot about where to shop or where is good to eat, and I really want to include a lot more of this in my day-to-day posts. I also love talking about events that are happening or people who may visit my town.

Last Friday Ash Pollard from MKR came to visit with the Heinz Beanz Creation Food Truck. I went along to meet Ash and try some of the tasty samples on offer!

Ash was lovely!! We talked about Geelong and all there was to do, as well as Fashion Week as Ash had attended a few shows.
Plus I got to try her creation once I’d donated to the Jan Juc surf club! A great support initiative  by Heinz, where a $5 donation provided a tasty lunch!

I cant wait to share more fun around Gtown with you all!

Outfit of the Day

You can tell this hairstyle is my go to of late! Quick and easy plus I love showing off my length. My fringe had got to long hence it parts; lucky I got it cut that night ready for Fashion Week! That post coming soon.

What would you like to hear more about on Geelong Fashionista? Would you be keen to hear about Gtown?

5 weeks in

Darecember

It’s been 5 weeks since an added addition came into my life. I am loving this new adventure but have learnt time does change and things don’t always go according to plan.

I had all these plans for blogging and getting Geelong Fashionista exactly where I wanted it to go but I think I am going to have to give myself some more time. It’s an adjusting process and still trying to get into the groove of life with a beautiful little girl.

Frankie

I have been staying up to date on instagram and if you don’t already you can come follow along and see what I have been up to at @gfashionista.

I have been playing along with Fox in Flats for her annual #DAREcemeber, a style challenge which is a lot of fun. Each day trying a new style and I personally think is great to help me choose what to wear each day. Speaking of what to wear, now that i have a baby the problem has got worse as I have to now decide what not only I am wearing but what she will wear for the day. She has great clothes as she has been so spoilt and had beautiful hand-me-downs too which are so much fun to get her all dressed up in.

Below are some of the dares we have had this month so far, and it’s not to late to join in!

and then there were three

39 weeks

You may have noticed that I have meaning missing of late.. it’s because our two has become three!

That is right… I’ve just had a baby! Well she is nearly three weeks old now but it has meant life has changed forever and I am still getting use to this new role of mine!

It all kind of happened rather quickly. I had a day planned to get the blog ready while I took some downtime for motherhood and next minute I was in hospital having a baby just a little earlier than expected. Not quite how I thought it would happen so very thrilled to have a healthy happy baby!

I am over the moon and so happy and loving this new adventure but Geelong Fashionista has been neglected with every ambition to come back and write as soon as I can.

I don’t plan on changing the blog into a baby blog by any means… that is not why you follow; but things will change around here in terms of lifestyle and no doubt I’ll be mentioning her in my writing but still with the focus on my everyday fashion, lifestyle and hometown of Geelong.

Before little miss was born I was thrilled that I got to get some amazing images of my belly. Andrew and I borrowed our friends beautiful house and took some to remember the time. I loved been pregnant; it was a wonderful time and I am so lucky that I had such a great pregnancy and enjoyed my changing body. I’m thrilled I captured it right before Frankie was born.

life is crazy

Crazy Life

My life at the moment has been crazy! Between having something on just about every minute of the weekend to a crazy busy working week,  this blog of mine has been missing out.

I’ve tried to take the time to get a few words on the computer but even that has been a challenge and it upsets me as I love putting my time into this my brand and hoping to grow and really show you my readers my everyday style as well as what inspires me.

Today I bring you a look of which brought a day of shopping and doing some much-needed “me” errands as well as enjoying some time at home which is beginning to feel like a holiday house!

This skirt is from Mim and Bas and has been such a great staple for my maternity wardrobe. It’s comfortable around my growing baby bump, a great length as well as easily dressed up for work or worn for a casual weekend.

I’m currently 28 weeks, almost 29 on the home stretch which is very exciting!
