When I cam across Elm Knitwear I got very excited. Not only do they create incredible pieces with wonderful colour but they too are from Geelong!
I was lucky enough to sample some pieces and I can say that I have lived in them all and received such wonderful comments every time I wear them. With winter on our doorstep be sure to check out there latest winter range!
I wanted you to all hear about Elm so I caught up with one of the designers Sally, to find out more.
Elm has beautiful designed pieces. What was the inspiration to create this label?
Ange started Elm & asked me to jump on-board after her first season and what an exciting project Elm is! We just love it!
The Elm ethos is to be ‘effortlessly stylish’ – each having 2 kids of our own, we realised there is a need to make everyday wardrobe choices both simple and luxurious.
We are inspired by a colourful lifestyle, art and travel. Elm loves colour!
We have an emphasis on flattering every body type, natural fibres & slow fashion which has a timeless fashionability.
I love that you are local designers! How did you find your passion for fashion?
I still remember when I was 6yo and my parents gave me a little fashion template drawing game and looking back I think that was the start of it for me!
I always loved dressing Barbie’s up when I was younger & got my first sewing machine when I was 14yo for Christmas – I was actually hoping for a surfboard – but soon fell in love with making my own clothes.
Both Ange & I completed our Fashion Design studies at Gordon Institute of TAFE !
What designers inspire you and who influences your style?
We find inspiration all over! From the international catwalks, to the local runways and even to the streets. Instagram & Pinterest are our best friends.
We love Jessica Alba and her style, such an inspiration.
What is your never-fail, go to outfit for weekends?
I’m loving our Elm Paisley Dress which I just feel fabulous in & is so comfortable & easy to wear! I’ve worn it barefoot going for a walk along the beach & have also dressed it up with a blazer & ankle boots and worn it to a wedding – love versatile !
Coming into winter weather though I love to just throw on my jeans, converse & a cosy Elm knit – the Vera Pullover is my new favourite!
