warm and cosy

Warm and Cosy
Kirsty

How cold has the weather been!? If you live in Geelong/Melbourne or anywhere in Victoria for that matter I’m sure you will all agree.

I have tried my hardest to stay extra warm and cosy these past couple of days and loving a good knit and scarf combo to do exactly that. I find if the top part of me is warm I can get away with a little skin shown on the ankles (and legs in this case!)

My wardrobe of late has involved five colours on rotation; black, white, grey, navy and pink.  I love the way they all look either alone or combined which has helped me with a really good winter wardrobe. I’ve tried really hard to create a wardrobe that can easily adapt itself from “mum” to “fun” plus  combine to make lots and lots of looks.
I’ve had a massive wardrobe clean out and getting rid of so many clothes. I’m in the process of selling as some have barely been worn but I figure some things I don’t need and anything to make me choosing an outfit in the morning easier.

That brings me to something really exciting I’m working on. I’ve met an incredible group of ladies through Geelong Women in Business and working with them to create a fashion parade at the Geelong Small Business Expo. We are looking for everyday models so if you are from Geelong and keen get in touch! I’d love you to be apart of it!

I am in love with Instagram… So are a lot of people you may say… but I love the incredible community it creates, the products you can discover and the people you meet along the way.

Of late I’ve met a few people who I have come across on Instagram and it’s such a fun way to collaborate and work with incredible people. That is how the very talented Christina and I met. We got talking and got together to take some shots and I couldn’t be happier. I think they’ve have turned out really well! Go have a look at her Instagram account!

This top is another one that I have discovered on instagram. When I saw it I knew I had to have it and I’m so pleased that it looks good on! You know that feeling when you buy something because you can’t stop thinking about it… but with online you can’t try it on so have to hope it works when it arrives! (Or is that just me?!) Luckily it’s worked and has come up so well in these photos.

i forgot i had that….

grey vest

I love it when you find a look on  Instagram or Pinterest and think, ‘I could do something similar, I forgot I had that!’

Or more to the point I forgot I bought that last season (when I had a big baby belly! 😉 ) let’s get it back out of the wardrobe.

That is exactly how this outfit happened! I saw a picture on Instagram last week of a lady in a long grey vest with black jeans and remembered I too had a long grey vest that I could wear! (It’s like shopping without spending money, I tell you!!) It was time to whip it out and experiment with a look.

Luckily the autumn weather has been not to cold yet so I was able to try something I wouldn’t normally. (Like I have said before, my style has changed since becoming a mum!)

A Saturday staple for me has always been jeans and a white tee (I always think of the Lana Del Ray song Blue Jeans when I say that) sorry back on track… I grabbed my new favourite colour grey vest and added it to my jeans and tee and was pretty happy with how the look turned out! I was then able to enjoy the beautiful sunny autumn day.

simple tee

Kirsty

I love playing around with pieces from inside my wardrobe especially when you can wear something over and over again with it looking different every time, like this tee.

Mixing and matching a simple tee with anything that happens to be in my wardrobe is such a great way to create a different outfit and look. This is very much along the lines of what Project SoCo is all about, not needing to consume lots and looking good!

It also helps that I am trying to save save save toward a new house…

It’s come to my attention that we are currently outgrowing our house. Don’t get me wrong it still works, but what I would give for just one more room…  This means I need to continue my limited spending so that I can work toward a new place, especially as I not working!

In saying that, it is why I am all for using simple pieces and changing the way they look by adding a pretty skirt, or maybe a necklace, and I do love a good hat as you all know. The cut of this simple black tee is perfect and goes with nearly everything I have in my wardrobe. Plus having a t-shirt that you know is going to a great cause always makes me feel better too!

There is something about a skirt with pockets, I have sad it so often but it makes you feel good and they can be so practical especially as I find I need to carry a bib or her dummy and simply putting in my pocket really helps.

windy days

Windy

What a beautiful weekend we had, however we still haven’t quite skipped the cold days of winter!
The forecast is saying very cold the next couple days, but lets hope that’s the end as I heading toward maternity leave and would love spring weather!

I took these photos on a sunny but windy day in Melbourne. I saw the lamp post and knew it was the place to stop and get a few images.
Andrew whipped out the camera and captured this amazing spot with such a great lamp post and the plain white wall. Really making my outfit pop! I love exploring Melbourne and love that there is something amazing around every corner. Great places for photos every where I look.

I have been trying to wear some colour and this woolen dress has been a great addition to my baby bump wardrobe.
It’s warm and give the right amount of colour, even if I have paired it with everything black!

Are you someone who likes to inject colour?

denim, black and white

I’ve just had an impromptu social media vacation. It wasn’t intended nor was it because I was over it, it just sort of happened and it felt good.

I’m back now though! I cant wait to get stuck back into everything with lots of fun and exciting posts coming your way. It was nice to step away and relax and realise that life does go on without checking Instagram fifty times a day!

Back to fashion…

I love trying to adapt the clothes I have in my wardrobe. This way I get lots of wear out of  my clothes and change their style. This black top is one of those pieces I wanted to get more wear out of. Being a crop it’s not so easy to wear as the weather starts cooling down and not quite practical enough for work either. A simple white tee with some ripped jeans were the best pairing to try out the look I had in mind.

It was so fun to put this together and I’m really happy with the look, a casual yet fun style with heels to dress it up a little more ready for a dinner out.

Plus the industrial background made for some great images and was a fun shoot.

hook and vine

Kirsty

It was all happening in Geelong over the weekend with so much on to see and do.

The Avalon Airshow started Friday and went right through the weekend. In Geelong West on Saturday was Pako Festa, celebrating all things multicultural. Sunday on the Bellarine was the Wallington Strawberry Fair.

I headed to the inaugural Sustainable Hook and Vine Festival Saturday. It was all about seafood and wine and the organic and sustainable practice of fishing. Music was played throughout the afternoon with wine samples on offer and food and drink to be purchased. Picnic blankets covered the grounds and everyone was enjoying the beautiful sunshine on the last day of summer!

I tried the salt and pepper calamari from Uber Mama and it was delicious! Served with an asian slaw it was a perfect lunch. Andrew tried the pork belly also from Uber Mama and he too thought it was delicious! I think we will be heading to Angelsea to try some more!

discover melbourne

I love how close Melbourne is from Geelong. It only takes a quick hour up the road to get to one of the best cities in the world where there is so much to discover. Don’t get me wrong I love Geelong and everything it has to offer, that’s why I live here in Ocean Grove but it’s so handy having Melbourne not so far away!

On the weekend I headed up to Melbourne to hang with my brother. We made no plans but decided to see where the day would take us. I did have a voucher I was wanting to use so we headed to Chaddy (Chadstone Shopping Centre) for a look around. Matt suggested I try the Oriental Tea House for lunch and I am so pleased he did. What amazing food they had and the tea was delicious. I highly recommend it and there are a few around!

We then decided to head to South Yarra to catch up with some more friends and ended up at Stables of Como! What an amazing place with so much to do in one spot. We wanted coffee and afternoon tea but once we had we went exploring and it was so nice to see incredible gardens. I then found out from our friends you are able to get picnic baskets with the delicious food they sell and go and enjoy in the amazing surrounds. Something I really want to go back and try!

These were a quick few shots I got my brother to take as we explored the grounds.

Have you discovered any good spots of late? In Geelong or Melbourne?

culottes

Nicole in Pool

My beautiful model Nicole is having a birthday today! So I wish her the happiest of birthdays. I hope it brings a day of laughter and happiness.

Last weekend while we were in Sydney I asked her if I could take some photos of her outfit as I loved her style!

Culottes have been popping up everywhere of late and I thought why not capture this incredible print Nicole had on. Culottes are a great way to feel comfortable while adding something to your outfit. I love this print, you can never have too much leopard!!

We were enjoying the view drinks and fun at the Ivy Pool Bar and after a drink or two Nic let me capture her look.

There were people everywhere… It was packed as there was a charity event on where everyone had to wear budgie smugglers! It was very funny and a great cause. The photos still worked well and I think set the scene.

I really enjoy taking photos of other people. I still have a long way to go in learning techniques but I am happy with how my progress is coming along… Hopefully I’ll get a new camera for my birthday and this will make me a pro! ha ha

What do you think of  the culottes trend?

The Girls

hemline

Navy and white

This skirt caught my attention when I first saw it, especially because of the unusual hemline and the way it sat and looked on the model.

It was the first time I had looked at The Iconic and I discover two skirts that I really liked and put them into my shopping cart. Although I got these a while ago I haven’t had them on the blog yet! I really need to get more photos!! I haven’t really had any reason to look at the iconic and have realized there is so much on there on offer and perhaps somewhere I should be checking often for good finds. Plus the mixture of brands is quite good and you can find a really good wide price range. Both skirts I brought were great value and I’m really happy with them.

This skirt is comfy and sits really well and I’ve found by wearing a slip underneath I relax a lot more about the split and it really doesn’t move around that much anyway. It really does show every curve, but as I said to Andrew I’m embracing my inner JLO; booty is in!

These photos were fun to take with the brick wall as the background, making for quite an interesting contrast. I actually took them near work and it was quite funny with the early morning workers walking past having a chuckle as they saw me posing getting the right snap. They started posing back at me and pulling the teapot at me as I like to call it!
