its time to celebrate

its time to celebrate
Kirsty

So much has been going on in my life…. To be honest when does it really stop? But currently everything has been happening at once!

I’m back at work! (think of the money ūüėČ )
My little girl turned one! (How did that go so fast!!!)
House hunting (well trying too…)
Birthday parties (1st ones!)
Catch ups…. the list goes on!

Plus this blog of mine has turned 4!!
I really need to celebrate that! 4 years I have been doing this passion project that is so much fun and I love writing plus meeting incredible people along the way.

I still have so many plans for where I will go and how I will take this to the next level… All I need is to fit in a few more hours into my day and hopefully that can come true!
So much to tell you all, so much to write… ¬†Where to begin and how to accomplish! That is my goal of right now!

I have so many incredible Geelong stories about people I am meeting and experiences that I am getting to do now to tell you all about them.

Last week I meet an incredible lady from Geelong that designs designer bags! The quality is outstanding and they are a must for every girl who has dreamt of a designer bag but for an incredible price…. I have so much more to tell you about her, and that will be coming in the next post. For now you¬†need to know the name Cecily Clune, and if you are a Geelong local you can go purchase one from the pop up shop now on in Westfield Geelong!

Not to mention my Christmas (And birthday!!) wishlists will be coming soon!

my quick 5 step make-up routine

Make up Bag

I have found that some mornings (ok most) I have a short amount of time to get ready to get myself out the door to where I need to be.
Mum life means I need a quick but effective routine. I need make-up products that help make me look and feel good and quickly do the job.

I’ve never worn heavy make-up, always kept things simple and gone for a¬†natural look. Of late this has been my five step process

  1. Base
Foundation is something I don’t often wear. ¬†Actually only if I have a special event. A BB/CC cream have been my base now for a little while. I was gifted his product but I have loved the glow and feel of it on my face. Not to heavy and just enough coverage. ¬†
    Instaflawless
  2. Eyes
My eyes are a must. I don’t feel awake unless I have eyeliner on. I don’t know why and where it came from but I must have my eyes done to feel good.
I actually have found it hard to find a good eyeliner. My pet peeve is when they smudge and leave black marks. This one has been doing the job (for now) but I am keen to find one I love.

Any tips/good eyeliner are welcome as this is a nonnegotiable step in my routine!!

  3. Bronzer
I love summer and part of that is having that bronzed look about me. Where I live this is not possible so a good bronzer does the trick. I have used the Body Shop bronzer for years now and love the look it gives. Still natural but with that summer glow. It’s a must in my bag to make me feel awake and ready to take on the day.
    Bronzer
  4. Highlighter
I’m very lucky that my BFF does an amazing job at makeup. She has the right touch and I love how she makes me feel. It was her that introduced me to the Nars highlighter (and more to the point taught me how to apply) and again I love that glowed sun-kissed feel it leaves.
    Highlighter
  5. Lips
Lipstick again is something I don’t often wear. If I do its generally a nude but I still love wearing a good gloss to give me a shimmer on my lips.
It doesn’t help Andrew hates lipstick. No that it should stop me from wearing but I ¬†don’t reach for it.
I was gifted this beautiful balm, and I love it. It’s ¬†almost¬†empty and I would happily buy again! It gives the final touch to make me feel ready to go.

I was gifted some items but choose to include as I do like the product. All opinions are my own.

winter tones

Autumn leaves

Winter seems to attract dark colours, I guess the gloomy days attract darker colours and hence set winter tones.

I’m not saying it’s a bad think, I think these looks can be great but I do try to add some colour to a dark outfit where possible. Hence when shopping in my friends wardrobe (Thanks Nic; I was over my own!), I borrowed the most comfy of colourful flats and now have the urge (ok need!) to go get me a pair as I didn’t want to take them off my feet! ¬†I didn’t think I was the laced-up-shoe kinda girl but how wrong I was! Another lesson that you should try something and it may pay off! I’m not saying buy it but do try before you reject the idea.

I also borrowed her beautiful leather jacket she got made in Bali (yes, now I too have to go to Bali and get one made!) and layered up a winter look with black and grey tones.

As a mum I really am looking for comfort these days. Something that allows me to easily adapt for my little girl, whether that is going for a walk, out for coffee, playing on the floor or even heading to a play centre with other mummies and babies I want to feel like I can do anything in my outfits.

This look did all the above, plus adding a few touches, like earring, necklace and a nice clutch; I can leave little miss at home and go and enjoy me time as well!

in the navy…

Kirsty

Navy and grey have been big favourites of mine of late. I seem to be drawn toward them and building up a collection of clothes in those tones.

When thinking of what to wear, I thought what better autumn look than putting an all navy look together. Plus when you add tan tones how can you go wrong!

I like experimenting with ,my outfits and this one paid off. My favourite quilted skirt (I seem to be living in!); my last season long cardi (love wardrobe shopping, plus it was perfect for winter last season) and my navy singlet (I can’t seem to get off); all combined to create this tonal, monochrome look. ¬†Add in my new Wittner boots (I really shouldn’t have bought but it’s very hard when you get a $30 voucher plus 30% off!) with this beautiful Michael Kors bag (my sister-in-law gave me as a beautiful gift for helping with her wedding; I know spoilt right!) and it all seemed to work really well!

Bare legs may not happen for much longer as the weather really does seem to have turned colder as we approach winter but I’ll be trying as hard as I can until June is here!

Again I was lucky to work with the talented Christina (SkinnyGirlsJeans) who did such a great job at capturing some stunning images! She knows how to capture the moments and really does have an eye for fashion photography. You only have to see her Instagram page to see her talent. My favourite image is the autumn leaves on the white house! Really captures the season and is such a strong photograph!

laneways of melbourne

Melbourne

I love exploring Melbourne, especially when you come across the random laneways and amazing graffiti.
This particular laneway was fascinating, it had shoes all different colours as decoration hanging above from wall to wall.

The weather of late has been beautiful, with glorious¬†autumn days here in Geelong and Melbourne. It’s a bit unexpected really as it had started to get quite cold!
Hence I have pulled out the boots but am still wearing skirts in this sunny weather.

This skirt was such a fun find; it’s quilted and I think will be versatile for winter with some tights underneath… (or maybe I need to add over the knee boots onto my want list! )
It’s navy and the colour has¬†become a big staple colour in my wardrobe! My mummy style has made me think about purchases a lot, so I’m tending to stick to very neutral colours and navy is a neutral in my book!

I seem to be living in this jumper! I love that it works with anything I have on plus it’s not thick so perfect for this autumn weather.

In mummy news… it’s nearly mothers day and I have a gift guide coming with some great hints to buy your mum/wife/partner! Make sure you keep your eyes out for that!

i forgot i had that….

grey vest

I love it when you find a look on ¬†Instagram or Pinterest¬†and think, ‘I could do something similar, I forgot I had that!’

Or more to the point I forgot I bought that last season (when I had a big baby belly! ūüėČ ) let’s get it back out of the wardrobe.

That is exactly how this outfit happened! I saw a picture on Instagram last week of a lady in a long grey vest with black jeans and remembered I too had a¬†long grey vest that I could wear! (It’s like shopping without spending money, I tell you!!) It was time to whip it out and experiment with a look.

Luckily the autumn weather has been not to cold yet so I was able to try something I wouldn’t normally. (Like I have said before, my style has changed since becoming a mum!)

A Saturday staple for me has always been jeans and a white tee (I always think of the Lana Del Ray song Blue Jeans when I say that) sorry back on track… I grabbed my new favourite colour grey vest and added it to my jeans and tee and was pretty happy with how the look turned out! I was then able to enjoy the beautiful sunny¬†autumn day.

exploring perth

Kings Park

Andrew and I decided we needed a break after a very big few months and have packed our bags and headed to Perth for a week of relaxation.

It was actually funny as we debated long and hard where to go and after lots of back and forth decided we hadn’t been to Perth, and having the added bonus of having friends here that we would come visit for a week.

While I plan on not doing much and relaxing (hopefully thawing out from the cold) I did want to explore and see some of the sights of Perth.

We headed to Kings Park as I’d heard some wonderful things; and people weren’t wrong. Beautiful City views of Perth CBD, the swan river plus plenty to see and do in the park. I really enjoyed exploring.

It was nice not to have a big coat on or even a scarf, although we did receive some rain but still it was great not to be cold! Still finding stripes are following me and I love showing off the bump now and embracing my changing shape. I guess now I’m over the halfway mark I am going to see lots of growth!!

navy, grey and stripes

Park Shot

I have two days to go until I can wear tights. No one would notice if I gave in early but I said I wouldn’t wear them until May and I’m sticking to it! Winter has come from no where and it has been pretty damn cold here in Geelong! I can’t believe it as I really love the warm weather and in no way am I ready for winter!

I thought the challenge I gave to myself would be easy until I realized how many skirts I own and how much I don’t like wearing pants. Don’t get me wrong I love my jeans but tailored pants I just don’t seem to own or wear and not wearing tights has limited my choice of daily outfit!

Someone said to me, “Aren’t you excited about scarves, coast and layering?” Well that answer is no! As much as I do love the looks and what is around I am not looking forward to the cold weather. I love summer!

What I am excited about is navy and grey. Stripes too. I think they will be a staple for me over the next six months. Although I still love these colours in summer I think they will be a good winter base for me as well.

discover melbourne

Kirsty

I love how close Melbourne is from Geelong. It only takes a quick hour up the road to get to one of the best cities in the world where there is so much to discover. Don’t get me wrong I love Geelong and everything it has to offer, that’s why I live here in Ocean Grove but it’s so handy having Melbourne not so far away!

On the weekend I headed up to Melbourne to hang with my brother. We made no plans but decided to see where the day would take us. I did have a voucher I was wanting to use so we headed to Chaddy (Chadstone Shopping Centre) for a look around. Matt suggested I try the Oriental Tea House for lunch and I am so pleased he did. What amazing food they had and the tea was delicious. I highly recommend it and there are a few around!

We then decided to head to South Yarra to catch up with some more friends and ended up at Stables of Como! What an amazing place with so much to do in one spot. We wanted coffee and afternoon tea but once we had we went exploring and it was so nice to see incredible gardens. I then found out from our friends you are able to get picnic baskets with the delicious food they sell and go and enjoy in the amazing surrounds. Something I really want to go back and try!

These were a quick few shots I got my brother to take as we explored the grounds.

Have you discovered any good spots of late? In Geelong or Melbourne?

i’m not a shirt person

Good Morning

I’m not a shirt person (normally!)¬†There is something about collars that annoy me. I don’t know what it is but I prefer either collarless or just skip the shirt altogether. Same goes for turtle necks. I don’t do these at all and don’t own any. They make me feel trapped or something, yet I love a good scarf.

I do own a chambray shirt and on this particular day decided to wear it and try out preppy style. I’ve seen a few people out and about of late with variations of this style and thought I’d put my own stamp and twist on the style, making it more “Kirsty”.

I love the way this outfit worked out and think maybe I should be¬†a shirt person. Perhaps I should consider buying more and working them in with my outfits, this worked well and the collar didn’t feel like it was suffocating me. I even added a scarf for some warmth in the morning.

I had fun taking these photos and started dancing around which Andrew captured well! The sun was rising over beautiful Geelong and makes you smile at how lucky we are to live in this place!

What do you think of my style?
