skinny dippers

I love Geelong and exploring everything we have on offer in this great town, so I thought I would start to again talk about the wonderful places we have on offer in this town!

On Saturday, three of my beautiful friends and I tried out Skinny Dippers in Newtown, for a breakfast date. I think it’s important for me to say who I went with as that can alter the experience of the cafe.. (No kids means more relaxing for example!)

When we first walked in we felt over dressed… Everyone was in their active wear! We realised Geelong Crossfit was next door as well as the cafe been known as a great spot for the health conscious, providing clean healthy foods. It was great to know so many people were out and about on a beautiful Saturday morning after doing some exercise!

We ordered a coffee then sat and decided what we wanted for breaky, while making the comment we would have to come back and try one of their “bowls” for lunch!

the menu

When looking at the menu you wont find any naughty treats. As mentioned before it is for the health conscious and allows you to make great choices in what you are after. They do have raw treats as well as muffins, however they are made with activated coconut, so good sugars! Anyone that likes a healthy treat it’s worth a look.

Chelsea and I ordered the “smash brothers” which was poached eggs with smashed avocado and goats curd. My only suggestion would be to make the avo a little more chunky but maybe I too picky!

Nicole and Carol ordered “Bob the builder” where you were able to create your own breaky choice. A great option if you feel like bits from different menu options.

venue

It was great to enjoy some adult time, but the venue was a great space and was very kid friendly.
They offer a kids menu as well as lots of high chairs available! You can most certainly take the kids and be sure you giving them great treats.

king of the castle

KOTC #2

When I go out to a cafe or restaurant I look for three things:

  • Food selection
  • Coffee (yes now that I drink it!)
  • Is it pram friendly?

Now yes this third point isn’t something I have always looked for, it has become a new one on my list. However I have discovered that I like to know if a place is designed to take the pram, can kids go or should I be leaving little miss at home and going with grown ups?

As I have wanted to for a while now I am going to tell you each week about places to go and try around Geelong, Bellarine and the Surf Coast.

To start off I thought I would choose one on my favourite places in Geelong; on Pakington Street;  King of the Castle (KOTC)

I’ve got to know Robbie the owner and I am always so impressed with what he puts into the place and his great ideas! Always helping charity and helping other Geelong businesses it’s so impressive!

the menu

Although the menu is fairly new (they change seasonal) I have been working my way through and trying lots of the delicious food.
There are simple items as well as yum treats, plus great vegetarian options which is always very welcomed by me.

Whether a sweet tooth or after something savoury there are so many choices.

Some of my current favs are the Chill Beans; Black Rice Pudding and the simple Avo on toast!
If you have a sweet tooth the waffles are a must!

KOTC #3

coffee

I only started drinking coffee 12 months ago when it became my pregnancy craving. Weird right?!

It’s good coffee and they do pretty much anything that’s in vogue (I say this as I call my brother a Melbourne coffee snob and he now drinks “Magics” and they make them! )

I am partial to a Mocha but my favourite from here is the Affogatos!! You can choose any flavour gelato (Which are all yum on their own) with a shot of coffee!! Amazing!!

KOTC #1

venue

KOTC is pram friendly and they are very accommodating to helping us mums in and out of the venue if the door is down on a cold day!

That is not to say you can’t enjoy a coffee with just grown ups but it’s great to know anyone can go along!

10 best places to eat in bali

This latest trip to Bali was spent enjoying a lot of great food and finding some incredible places that we had never tried. Andrew and I do venture to Bali a lot but this time we enjoyed going and trying places we hadn’t been before.
I decided I need to share these spots and have created the list below. These are 10 of the best places to eat and try next time you are in Bali

Sea Circus
Sea Circus is a delicious place with a real mixture of fresh salads, wraps and also some Mexican treats. It even has incredible smoothies and juices.
The outside is quite fun and not hard to miss while inside is suitable for a nice dinner for two or a family to dine.

Mama San
One of the best places I have ever been in Bali. This Asian infused menu has incredible flavours with beautiful local produce.
I had steamed fish with lemongrass infused sauce and it was the perfect mix of flavours. Andrew had twice cooked pork ribs and said the meat just fell away from the bone and again flavours were well-balanced. Our friends had a whole snapper which was full of flavour.

Lacalaca Cantina Mexicana
Mexican does seem to come up several time on this post, but the Balinese do this so well. Lacalaca is fresh mexican and had the right balance of spicy and zest.
The fish tacos are a must, and unlike me if you eat chicken the nachos are a must also!

Taco Local
Andrew found Taco Local a few trips ago, but it is still somewhere we like to go. Yummy tacos, great burritos and perfect with a ice cold beer. This tiny spot is a great spot for lunch or dinner.

Petitenget
Our friends took us to this place for dinner and we were blown away with the yummy food. Fresh food at a very reasonable in price.
We enjoyed a soft shell crab salad and Andrew had an incredible steak.

Drop. The Coffee Spot
As the name suggests, this is where Andrew came every morning for his coffee. I don’t drink coffee but enjoyed a fresh smoothie instead.
Great coffee and yummy fresh food.

Earth Cafe
As a vegetarian (but yes I do eat a little fish!) this cafe had everything I could hope for! Delicious vegan and vegetarian delights with so much I wanted to try. Fresh salads, burgers, wraps and genuine yummy food, this cafe has a lot to talk about, including a health food store inside with plenty of healthy snacks!
The best selection of organic food that tastes incredible and is prepared with love.
