eclectica and me

Eclectica andme

At the beginning of October I saw a call out from a photographer, Jeanie Irving . I have admired Jeanie’s work for a long time now, and always followed her on Instagram. Jeanie was looking for someone to be a model showcasing her videography in one of Geelong’s gift shops.

I’m always keen to work with talented people especially to get some amazing photos to use on the blog. Jeanie did not disappoint and I was rapt with these images. Plus I got to be in the incredible short film showcasing Eclectica!  I am looking forward to working again with Jeanie and creating more wonderful insights into our beautiful town Geelong!

I have always loved going into Eclectica to look for beautiful gifts, plus it’s on one of my favourite streets, Pakington Street. Eclectica has beautiful homewares, clothing and gift ideas, as well as the talented owner, Amanda Jane, creating lots of the beautiful jewelry. I have followed her journey for a very long time and even wore her pieces back when I did my debutante ball and it still amazes me what she creates.

I’m all for Geelong and these two wonderful women are extremely talented. One with a beautiful store with incredible jewelry. The other an amazing eye for showing off the best that can be seen.

Don’t forget to have a look at this wonderful video below; Jeanie showcases the shop perfectly!

guess who’s back…. back again in Mamaybebe

Mamaybebe

It has been a long time since I’ve stopped by this blog of mine!

If you follow me on Instagram  you would be all up to date with my life! If not, a lot has happened since my last post back!! Unfortunately something had to give and that has been this platform of mine.. my voice to you the listener.
I’ve had a baby girl (in July), making our three a four; a wonderful addition completing our family. I am loving life with my two little girls. It has made life very crazy time too as I’ve adjusted and adapted to parenting to two! Time is one of those things that seems to have gone out the window. I actually read such a great article about been a mother of two and good for a laugh should you want to check it out!
Two weeks after having Lola I went back into hospital with appendicitis! CRAZY!! I was in so much pain and assumed it was just after birth pains, but no my appendix was about to burst. Caught it just in time. The upside was I got to have some lovely one-on-one bonding time with Lola while in hospital, even though I missed my Frankie terribly.
These pictures were taken when Lola was 6 weeks old. We went away for a much-needed night away and it seemed appropriate to capture the outfit I had been wearing day in and day out for six weeks! They were beautifully gifted by Mamaybebe and I highly recommend them.

welcome 2017

2017 is here… Can you believe it?!
I certainly can not but am so excited for what the year will hold.

I have many adventures planned and fun things to see and do, which I hope to continue to tell you all about it! Hopefully a little more regularly than of late! I have been slack but it has busy busy busy around here! Sorry for not popping up on your screens a little more, I’ll do better I hope!
I love writing and telling my thoughts on Geelong Fashionista, but time has been running away of late and I’m left wondering, “how did that happen!”

One of my goals for 2017 is to really work on finding the time to write. I want to sharing my thoughts on fashion and style as well as tell you about incredible Geelong events, places and things to do. Especially with a little one, things change and to be able to share with people my thoughts and what I found is something I really want to do.

My biggest goal for 2017 is to work out my beauty regime. To look after my skin and get it to that glowing state where I feel good all the time!
That started with the wonderful present I received for Christmas, Zoe Foster (Blake)’s Amazinger Face
I’m already in love with what it says and only a quarter of the way through!

My style is still evolving and I think will continue to do so this year as I work out my perfect look and really work on my capsule wardrobe.
I spoke to an incredible group of women late last year about returning to the workforce and it really helped me to see what I am so passionate about and sharing my styling tips. Now to share those with you too!

To kick-start 2017 I thought I would look back at some of my favourite looks from 2016 and get inspired to start exciting posts for 2017!

What are you goals for 2017? I’d love to hear them….

Kirsty

So much has been going on in my life…. To be honest when does it really stop? But currently everything has been happening at once!

I’m back at work! (think of the money 😉 )
My little girl turned one! (How did that go so fast!!!)
House hunting (well trying too…)
Birthday parties (1st ones!)
Catch ups…. the list goes on!

Plus this blog of mine has turned 4!!
I really need to celebrate that! 4 years I have been doing this passion project that is so much fun and I love writing plus meeting incredible people along the way.

I still have so many plans for where I will go and how I will take this to the next level… All I need is to fit in a few more hours into my day and hopefully that can come true!
So much to tell you all, so much to write…  Where to begin and how to accomplish! That is my goal of right now!

I have so many incredible Geelong stories about people I am meeting and experiences that I am getting to do now to tell you all about them.

Last week I meet an incredible lady from Geelong that designs designer bags! The quality is outstanding and they are a must for every girl who has dreamt of a designer bag but for an incredible price…. I have so much more to tell you about her, and that will be coming in the next post. For now you need to know the name Cecily Clune, and if you are a Geelong local you can go purchase one from the pop up shop now on in Westfield Geelong!

Not to mention my Christmas (And birthday!!) wishlists will be coming soon!

wardrobe rut

In the past week I have gone to my wardrobe and decided I don’t like 75% of it anymore….

Leather jacket

Have I changed my tastes?
Is it because I’m sick of everything?
Could it be that I’m back at work?
Could it be this awful weather we having that hasn’t allowed me to get into my favourite season dressing (I LOVE summer!)?
Or if I think about it I haven’t bought much and worn the same things over and over> First pregnant, then breastfeeding and home with baby girl.

I’m in a wardrobe rut!

How do I get out…
I don’t have money to be buying a whole new wardrobe! Plus I hate getting rid of mine when I know there are some great pieces in there that still could get lots of wear.. but I’ve just had enough of it all.

No wonder so many people have giant wardrobes! I would love to keep everything but I don’t have the space either.
Plus I try to live within my means, not buying excessive and you do need somewhere to put it all!

I’m back at work, working part-time; this means I get a part-time wage (gasp!) plus I need to clothe my little girl too! Which again means I can’t just go spend all my money!

Over the past 12 months I have done a really good job of only buying pieces that work with a large percentage of my wardrobe.  I’ve also culled soooo much of it and have sitting in bags… I think someone would still get so much wear out of what I have… I really need to get them moving!

A big part of it has to do with the weather too. It has been awful! This time last year spring was here and we were having beautiful days. This year I can’t seem to put winter away and I don’t think that helping my issues either!

So the question is how do I get out of this wardrobe rut?
How do I breathe life back into what I have as really there are some amazing pieces in there that are still perfect for day-to-day living!

Navy and tan

navy and tan
Geelong

What is it about navy and tan that gets me so excited?! I love the combination of the two colours together especially as we come out of winter.

All of a sudden life has got really busy with so many things on. I’m not complaining they are all very exciting but it’s as if something goes winter is over lets move onto busy warmer months!

It also makes me see that I really need to find a solution to me time. Some time to be alone and really work out exactly what I want and how I’m going to achieve it. Here I was thinking I had so much help and support to get this off the ground and don’t get me wrong I do but what I would give for 3-4 hours of uninterrupted me time would be incredible. I’m my own worst enemy though as I can’t bear to spend much time away from the cute thing that we created and she makes me laugh so much and fills my heart with so much joy. I’m really struggling with this back to work thing I think and need to remember that money is a must!  Someone has to help my shopping addiction!

Fashion is going to get me through the transition! Outfit planning on a budget and wearing fun exciting pieces; maybe even a heel every now and then! What I am looking forward to, is getting back into more of a routine and been really organised . I love having structure and I think it will help me to find the time to sit at the computer and write. This will lead to the dream of one day becoming a professional blogger!!

I ask this question to fellow mums… Do you get enough “me” time?

spring is in the air

Spring is in the air
Khaki

The weather is warming, the flowers are blooming… YES!! spring is in the air.

I love spring as the surrounds start to change; flowers are blooming, days get warmer and longer and summer is that much closer.

It means you can use much more of your wardrobe. Jackets are needed but they are taken off during the day! Boots can be worn but so to can open toe shoes. So much choice and variety, a fun change up from the cold rugged up weather. I love getting more wear out of my clothes and its when I start to see the gaps in my wardrobe as well as what I need to start saving for!

These khaki pants are going to become one of my basics for my work wardrobe (work time is getting closer for me to go back). They are so comfy and feel like I’m in pajamas! I was kindly gifted them by Surafina and was happy to receive as I am loving khaki. I paired with stripes and my updated essential blazer to create this look.

White and black work so well with khaki and really do allow for so many different options to change up the look. It’s so important to me to have pieces that can be so versatile but still worn like a uniform.

What is you favourite work essential?

work life is looming

Work life is looming
Back to work
Ok don’t panic! Going back to work after maternity leave is getting closer.
One second ago I was saying goodbye to my work, about to head off on my biggest adventure. Here I am about to return twelve months later.

Am I ready? Is this what I want to be doing?
Adult conversation is going to be great and I love using my brain for ideas, but I am really ready to get back to work life?

My days with little Miss are incredible and I love them! She has so much personality and is so much fun to be around but there are days when I would love some me time.

It really has been an adventure for me and all expectations changed very quickly about what the year would be like. I’m happy I took a year and lucky to have had the support from Andrew to do so but it’s also left me with wonder about where I see myself in five years time for my career.

I have wanted Geelong Fashionista to grow and flourish and lucky for me in the last two months it has! The opportunities it has allowed me to achieve have been amazing, but I think I need to really focus on what and where I see it going… I keep bringing this up. It comes down to how am I going to bring in a wage? I write because of the love of sharing my thoughts and style, and to be a career I would need to bring income. Don’t get me wrong the perks are great and I am so lucky at the opportunities but that doesn’t pay the mortgage!

At least I get to bring back out my work wardrobe and get to wear heels again! Take this incredible white blouse I was gifted from Surafina. It’s going to be a perfect staple for work. I love pieces that will match so much of my wardrobe plus looks great on. I love the cut and really can wear it any season.

What are your go to essentials for work?

my quick 5 step make-up routine

Make up Bag

I have found that some mornings (ok most) I have a short amount of time to get ready to get myself out the door to where I need to be.
Mum life means I need a quick but effective routine. I need make-up products that help make me look and feel good and quickly do the job.

I’ve never worn heavy make-up, always kept things simple and gone for a natural look. Of late this has been my five step process

  1. Base
Foundation is something I don’t often wear.  Actually only if I have a special event. A BB/CC cream have been my base now for a little while. I was gifted his product but I have loved the glow and feel of it on my face. Not to heavy and just enough coverage.
    Instaflawless
  2. Eyes
My eyes are a must. I don’t feel awake unless I have eyeliner on. I don’t know why and where it came from but I must have my eyes done to feel good.
I actually have found it hard to find a good eyeliner. My pet peeve is when they smudge and leave black marks. This one has been doing the job (for now) but I am keen to find one I love.

Any tips/good eyeliner are welcome as this is a nonnegotiable step in my routine!!

    eyeliner

  3. Bronzer
I love summer and part of that is having that bronzed look about me. Where I live this is not possible so a good bronzer does the trick. I have used the Body Shop bronzer for years now and love the look it gives. Still natural but with that summer glow. It’s a must in my bag to make me feel awake and ready to take on the day.
    Bronzer
  4. Highlighter
I’m very lucky that my BFF does an amazing job at makeup. She has the right touch and I love how she makes me feel. It was her that introduced me to the Nars highlighter (and more to the point taught me how to apply) and again I love that glowed sun-kissed feel it leaves.
    Highlighter
  5. Lips
Lipstick again is something I don’t often wear. If I do its generally a nude but I still love wearing a good gloss to give me a shimmer on my lips.
It doesn’t help Andrew hates lipstick. No that it should stop me from wearing but I  don’t reach for it.
I was gifted this beautiful balm, and I love it. It’s  almost empty and I would happily buy again! It gives the final touch to make me feel ready to go.

Beanie Love

On a bad hair day I like to make life easy and add a beanie or a hat or even a headband. It is not only a quick fix but a look that is fun as well.

I have learnt that sometimes there isn’t time to wash your hair, even to do a proper hairstyle as you need to be out of the door. This is how this look went down. We had to be out of the house by 9 am and the beanie was the solution. Although I do love them anyway to stay warm in winter and they look so good!

I seem to be wearing four/five colours on a regular basis of late, but I still love adding a pop of colour. (even if that colour is one I have been living in) This jacket was a favourite I bought two seasons ago but love that it still works and brings some bright life to my otherwise dark outfit. I love when that happens. You spend good money on a jacket and it still keeps working in with everything you own.  That is why you make sure you invest in key pieces as they really will last through the seasons!

Flats…. they seem to have become my new obsession and who would have thought. I see other bloggers living in heels and don’t know how they do it sometimes running after little people and my bubba not even walking yet! I am loving the change-up and will never lose my love for heels, but will always be practical, especially  when walking around our beautiful town with my little family.
