Madison Square

Don’t you love it when you come across a beautiful item of clothing so different; you can picture yourself in it with at least four pieces you own?!

That is exactly how I felt when I laid my eyes on this white jumper. I was scrolling through Instagram and came across the jumper from Labels and Love

The arms had great detail and I loved the big over-sized look for something to snuggle into for winter. Plus it was different and I love not been a cookie cutter and trying something a little different. I bet this jumper flies out the door as it is so pretty!

Life has been getting really crazy of late, but in a really good way as I develop Geelong Fashionista and get organised for this upcoming fashion parade. It’s going to be so much fun! I love showcasing the incredible Geelong talent we have and I’m so excited to be showcasing this in the parade, while been empowered and working with the incredible ladies at Geelong Women in Business.  Make sure you keep the day free and come to the Geelong Small Business Expo. Geelong Creative’s are there, an amazing kids corner, local Geelong businesses plus Fashion! It’s everything I love!

I’m on snap chat if anyone wants to follow along my daily fun… gfashionista is the username!

warm and cosy

Warm and Cosy
Kirsty

How cold has the weather been!? If you live in Geelong/Melbourne or anywhere in Victoria for that matter I’m sure you will all agree.

I have tried my hardest to stay extra warm and cosy these past couple of days and loving a good knit and scarf combo to do exactly that. I find if the top part of me is warm I can get away with a little skin shown on the ankles (and legs in this case!)

My wardrobe of late has involved five colours on rotation; black, white, grey, navy and pink.  I love the way they all look either alone or combined which has helped me with a really good winter wardrobe. I’ve tried really hard to create a wardrobe that can easily adapt itself from “mum” to “fun” plus  combine to make lots and lots of looks.
I’ve had a massive wardrobe clean out and getting rid of so many clothes. I’m in the process of selling as some have barely been worn but I figure some things I don’t need and anything to make me choosing an outfit in the morning easier.

That brings me to something really exciting I’m working on. I’ve met an incredible group of ladies through Geelong Women in Business and working with them to create a fashion parade at the Geelong Small Business Expo. We are looking for everyday models so if you are from Geelong and keen get in touch! I’d love you to be apart of it!

time

talking mum

Time… Something I think I have yet it goes by so quickly!

I love writing this blog. I find it fun, exciting and love sharing my thoughts with the world; yet somehow it gets neglected and forgotten about and pushed aside.

Maybe I should have called this post balance… Finding that balance of looking after your baby girl; cooking meals; doing washing; exercise; catching up with friends, family time and even trying to stay up to date with world news; all seems to pile on top of each other and I sit back and wonder how do I fit it all in.

I’ve tried really hard not to pick up my phone anymore in front of little miss. I don’t want her to think that mum has a phone stuck to her hand, or that I don’t want her undivided attention. So I’ve been putting aside and not checking social media as much. This does make me feel like I miss out on things and have now noticed silly Instagram has changed from a chronological scroll to anywhere and I HATE that! I want it in order and I want to see everyone I follow feeds!!!!!

I have tried to work on the computer while she sits and plays but again I don’t want her to think I have to be in front of a screen, and I get the guilt’s when I see her looking around to make sure I’m watching her! she smiles and always checks I’m seeing her latest trick! It’s so cute and very distracting! 😉

The other thing about time is that I have three more months until I go back to work… That still seems to be a while away but I know it’s going to fly past and gets me thinking about what I really want to do. I love been a mum, yet I do want to work too. Have that life/work balance. What is it that I really want to do?

So I ask you… How do you find the time to fit everything in? How do you prioritize?

winter comfort

You may have heard me say plenty of times before… winter is not my favourite season! People find this bizarre. As a lover of fashion you can have a lot of fun, boots, layers, coats but aside from all this I don’t like the cold. I would prefer summer clothes any day as well as to be in the warmth (unless there is snow… then I guess I’m happy for cold but that is another story! ha ha)

On a winter day I want to be comfortable and warm! It’s my ideal day in winter. Over the weekend a quiet day at home meant exactly that and I layered up in my cozy knit and top with these fun pants that I didn’t think would work on my short statue. How wrong I can be and again I come back to my point about you have to try different styles on different frames. Sometimes they do work and I don’t think I look to short in these, do I?

When I’m having a home day I still like wearing clothes I can pop out in (saves me getting changed 100 times) This outfit was perfect for a supermarket run and a quick stop in town(city centre of Geelong) to help my brother find some shoes! I’m on a tight budget (well trying) I want a new house and in order for that to happen I need to start saving money and this is extremely hard to a shopaholic! The fact I went into town and did not buy anything for myself or little miss for that matter is truly an extraordinary feat and something to celebrate! 😉

What do you think of winter? Are you a lover or a hater/disliker? What are your favourite winter items to wear?

real mum style

Geelong Fashionista

This last week I hosted # real mum style, a hashtag made by the fabulous Bron from Flat Bum Mum to get mum’s to show off their everyday style. Not only for people to see individual style, give inspiration for outfits but most of all a great supportive network of women who love giving you self-esteem. It’s also where age has no boundaries and you can be a mum of any age to join in and show off our style.

I have been apart of this fabulous community since little miss was born. I was lucky enough to even meet some of the incredible Melbourne community a few weeks ago. Such a lovely bunch of women and some support, it was great to have a wine and talk all things mum.

There were some incredible outfits and I loved been able to comment, like and watch these mums wear current winter wardrobes. This depends on where in Australia you are from (or even further abroad) as to how rugged up you needed to be! You can pick the Melbournities!

There were lots of mum posting looks that I have been following for a long time as well as some new people I found and have since started to follow. To sum up my week I have put some of my favourite looks below. Go check out their pages.

winter tones

Autumn leaves

Winter seems to attract dark colours, I guess the gloomy days attract darker colours and hence set winter tones.

I’m not saying it’s a bad think, I think these looks can be great but I do try to add some colour to a dark outfit where possible. Hence when shopping in my friends wardrobe (Thanks Nic; I was over my own!), I borrowed the most comfy of colourful flats and now have the urge (ok need!) to go get me a pair as I didn’t want to take them off my feet!  I didn’t think I was the laced-up-shoe kinda girl but how wrong I was! Another lesson that you should try something and it may pay off! I’m not saying buy it but do try before you reject the idea.

I also borrowed her beautiful leather jacket she got made in Bali (yes, now I too have to go to Bali and get one made!) and layered up a winter look with black and grey tones.

As a mum I really am looking for comfort these days. Something that allows me to easily adapt for my little girl, whether that is going for a walk, out for coffee, playing on the floor or even heading to a play centre with other mummies and babies I want to feel like I can do anything in my outfits.

This look did all the above, plus adding a few touches, like earring, necklace and a nice clutch; I can leave little miss at home and go and enjoy me time as well!

in the navy…

Kirsty

Navy and grey have been big favourites of mine of late. I seem to be drawn toward them and building up a collection of clothes in those tones.

When thinking of what to wear, I thought what better autumn look than putting an all navy look together. Plus when you add tan tones how can you go wrong!

I like experimenting with ,my outfits and this one paid off. My favourite quilted skirt (I seem to be living in!); my last season long cardi (love wardrobe shopping, plus it was perfect for winter last season) and my navy singlet (I can’t seem to get off); all combined to create this tonal, monochrome look.  Add in my new Wittner boots (I really shouldn’t have bought but it’s very hard when you get a $30 voucher plus 30% off!) with this beautiful Michael Kors bag (my sister-in-law gave me as a beautiful gift for helping with her wedding; I know spoilt right!) and it all seemed to work really well!

Bare legs may not happen for much longer as the weather really does seem to have turned colder as we approach winter but I’ll be trying as hard as I can until June is here!

Again I was lucky to work with the talented Christina (SkinnyGirlsJeans) who did such a great job at capturing some stunning images! She knows how to capture the moments and really does have an eye for fashion photography. You only have to see her Instagram page to see her talent. My favourite image is the autumn leaves on the white house! Really captures the season and is such a strong photograph!

discover

Luullah Belle

I am in love with Instagram… So are a lot of people you may say… but I love the incredible community it creates, the products you can discover and the people you meet along the way.

Of late I’ve met a few people who I have come across on Instagram and it’s such a fun way to collaborate and work with incredible people. That is how the very talented Christina and I met. We got talking and got together to take some shots and I couldn’t be happier. I think they’ve have turned out really well! Go have a look at her Instagram account!

This top is another one that I have discovered on instagram. When I saw it I knew I had to have it and I’m so pleased that it looks good on! You know that feeling when you buy something because you can’t stop thinking about it… but with online you can’t try it on so have to hope it works when it arrives! (Or is that just me?!) Luckily it’s worked and has come up so well in these photos.

laneways of melbourne

Melbourne

I love exploring Melbourne, especially when you come across the random laneways and amazing graffiti.
This particular laneway was fascinating, it had shoes all different colours as decoration hanging above from wall to wall.

The weather of late has been beautiful, with glorious autumn days here in Geelong and Melbourne. It’s a bit unexpected really as it had started to get quite cold!
Hence I have pulled out the boots but am still wearing skirts in this sunny weather.

This skirt was such a fun find; it’s quilted and I think will be versatile for winter with some tights underneath… (or maybe I need to add over the knee boots onto my want list! )
It’s navy and the colour has become a big staple colour in my wardrobe! My mummy style has made me think about purchases a lot, so I’m tending to stick to very neutral colours and navy is a neutral in my book!

I seem to be living in this jumper! I love that it works with anything I have on plus it’s not thick so perfect for this autumn weather.

In mummy news… it’s nearly mothers day and I have a gift guide coming with some great hints to buy your mum/wife/partner! Make sure you keep your eyes out for that!

i forgot i had that….

grey vest

I love it when you find a look on  Instagram or Pinterest and think, ‘I could do something similar, I forgot I had that!’

Or more to the point I forgot I bought that last season (when I had a big baby belly! 😉 ) let’s get it back out of the wardrobe.

That is exactly how this outfit happened! I saw a picture on Instagram last week of a lady in a long grey vest with black jeans and remembered I too had a long grey vest that I could wear! (It’s like shopping without spending money, I tell you!!) It was time to whip it out and experiment with a look.

Luckily the autumn weather has been not to cold yet so I was able to try something I wouldn’t normally. (Like I have said before, my style has changed since becoming a mum!)

A Saturday staple for me has always been jeans and a white tee (I always think of the Lana Del Ray song Blue Jeans when I say that) sorry back on track… I grabbed my new favourite colour grey vest and added it to my jeans and tee and was pretty happy with how the look turned out! I was then able to enjoy the beautiful sunny autumn day.
