its time to celebrate

its time to celebrate
Kirsty

So much has been going on in my life…. To be honest when does it really stop? But currently everything has been happening at once!

I’m back at work! (think of the money 😉 )
My little girl turned one! (How did that go so fast!!!)
House hunting (well trying too…)
Birthday parties (1st ones!)
Catch ups…. the list goes on!

Plus this blog of mine has turned 4!!
I really need to celebrate that! 4 years I have been doing this passion project that is so much fun and I love writing plus meeting incredible people along the way.

I still have so many plans for where I will go and how I will take this to the next level… All I need is to fit in a few more hours into my day and hopefully that can come true!
So much to tell you all, so much to write…  Where to begin and how to accomplish! That is my goal of right now!

I have so many incredible Geelong stories about people I am meeting and experiences that I am getting to do now to tell you all about them.

Last week I meet an incredible lady from Geelong that designs designer bags! The quality is outstanding and they are a must for every girl who has dreamt of a designer bag but for an incredible price…. I have so much more to tell you about her, and that will be coming in the next post. For now you need to know the name Cecily Clune, and if you are a Geelong local you can go purchase one from the pop up shop now on in Westfield Geelong!

Not to mention my Christmas (And birthday!!) wishlists will be coming soon!

floral in spring… ground breaking

Florals in Spring…. ground breaking
Floral Lami Saru

This is the week… The week I head back to work. I can not believe how quickly that has gone and how much I have gone on about it. (Sorry everyone)

On the positive side of things I’m looking forward to the adult conversations, wearing more of my wardrobe and getting into more of a routine.
I have so many clothes for work and it seems like such a shame not to wear, so I am pleased I get to wear them more.

Speaking of beautiful things to wear, how amazing is this floral dress. A beautiful floral number with pink undertones. I wanted to pick up on this and match the bright pink headpiece with pink pumps .

Add the Ocean Grove Main Street background and it makes for a great photo.

Every time I wear floral I think of Miranda Priestly from The Devil wears Prada; “floral in spring… groundbreaking”. It works for as such a beautiful spring look.

This particular outfit would be perfect for Oaks Day. Beautiful tones, shape and so feminine. Plus felt so good to wear.

you can leave your hat on

You can leave your hat on
 Fate Dress

Sometimes simple is all that is required. A straw hat, a pretty dress and some black heels.

I saw this dress, thought it was very pretty; and the moment I put it on I feel in love. I loved the way it felt on me and how incredible the cut and design was. Not to mention the colour.
I paired it with a simple boater hat, some black heels and the  look was complete.

This is the look I would like to wear to The Geelong Cup (our own race day; generally with a good insight into the winner of the Melbourne Cup!).
The look is simple yet elegant. I love a boater hat and it still works so well for spring racing as well as everyday wear.
The colour is so pretty and really works for this time of year.

There is usually a lot of press around the Geelong Cup in terms of the type of people who head to “country racing”.  I feel the people who dress well and behave well are overlooked and therefore get missed when a recap is done.
We have incredible boutiques that stock beautiful clothes and they need to be seen, in particular on days like this when we showcase off our beautiful city.

My only catch to attending the Geelong Cup will be that I would have only been back at work for a week… Is it a bit cheeky to ask for the day off? Some businesses get the day off work, but my workplace elects Melbourne Cup instead.  How I would love to show you images of the people who attend and some of the beautiful outfits.

october… spring racing is here

October
Butterfly Fascinator

I can not believe October is here! How did that happen? One minute ago I had a new-born baby next minute she is almost one!!
It means going back to work is nearing.. 11 days!! Plus to be honest Christmas is just around the corner! How did that happen??

I do love this time of year, with October bringing so much fun!
Daylight savings begins; (love me some extra daylight)
The weather starts to warm up (here hoping it does soon anyway);
Lots of fun events arise;
But most of all Spring Racing starts!

Spring racing brings many beautiful dresses, stylish yet comfortable shoes and the most incredible head wear. I LOVE hats, fascinators and anything that makes an outfit pop.
Discovering local incredible Geelong talent is a big love of mine, and I loved it when I stumbled upon Meg Fay Makes.
Together with amazing dresses from my local boutique Lami Saru in Ocean Grove, I have put together some really fun spring racing looks.

I didn’t go to spring racing last year as I was heavily pregnant and felt it would all be a bit much, I did some fun photos with my friends though, which you can go back and check!  This year it’s fun that I can get back into dresses and really play around with looks.

My first look worked better than I had hoped. I loved the beautiful floral dress and to complement it with the incredible butterfly headpiece worked a treat for me. It screamed spring and with the beautiful color palette of pink, white and mint I loved how this look came together.  I’m all for comfort on your feet as well (can’t be taking shoes off) and these pink pumps are like slippers!

Navy and tan

navy and tan
Geelong

What is it about navy and tan that gets me so excited?! I love the combination of the two colours together especially as we come out of winter.

All of a sudden life has got really busy with so many things on. I’m not complaining they are all very exciting but it’s as if something goes winter is over lets move onto busy warmer months!

It also makes me see that I really need to find a solution to me time. Some time to be alone and really work out exactly what I want and how I’m going to achieve it. Here I was thinking I had so much help and support to get this off the ground and don’t get me wrong I do but what I would give for 3-4 hours of uninterrupted me time would be incredible. I’m my own worst enemy though as I can’t bear to spend much time away from the cute thing that we created and she makes me laugh so much and fills my heart with so much joy. I’m really struggling with this back to work thing I think and need to remember that money is a must!  Someone has to help my shopping addiction!

Fashion is going to get me through the transition! Outfit planning on a budget and wearing fun exciting pieces; maybe even a heel every now and then! What I am looking forward to, is getting back into more of a routine and been really organised . I love having structure and I think it will help me to find the time to sit at the computer and write. This will lead to the dream of one day becoming a professional blogger!!

I ask this question to fellow mums… Do you get enough “me” time?

spring is in the air

Spring is in the air
Khaki

The weather is warming, the flowers are blooming… YES!! spring is in the air.

I love spring as the surrounds start to change; flowers are blooming, days get warmer and longer and summer is that much closer.

It means you can use much more of your wardrobe. Jackets are needed but they are taken off during the day! Boots can be worn but so to can open toe shoes. So much choice and variety, a fun change up from the cold rugged up weather. I love getting more wear out of my clothes and its when I start to see the gaps in my wardrobe as well as what I need to start saving for!

These khaki pants are going to become one of my basics for my work wardrobe (work time is getting closer for me to go back). They are so comfy and feel like I’m in pajamas! I was kindly gifted them by Surafina and was happy to receive as I am loving khaki. I paired with stripes and my updated essential blazer to create this look.

White and black work so well with khaki and really do allow for so many different options to change up the look. It’s so important to me to have pieces that can be so versatile but still worn like a uniform.

What is you favourite work essential?

work life is looming

Work life is looming
Back to work
Ok don’t panic! Going back to work after maternity leave is getting closer.
One second ago I was saying goodbye to my work, about to head off on my biggest adventure. Here I am about to return twelve months later.

Am I ready? Is this what I want to be doing?
Adult conversation is going to be great and I love using my brain for ideas, but I am really ready to get back to work life?

My days with little Miss are incredible and I love them! She has so much personality and is so much fun to be around but there are days when I would love some me time.

It really has been an adventure for me and all expectations changed very quickly about what the year would be like. I’m happy I took a year and lucky to have had the support from Andrew to do so but it’s also left me with wonder about where I see myself in five years time for my career.

I have wanted Geelong Fashionista to grow and flourish and lucky for me in the last two months it has! The opportunities it has allowed me to achieve have been amazing, but I think I need to really focus on what and where I see it going… I keep bringing this up. It comes down to how am I going to bring in a wage? I write because of the love of sharing my thoughts and style, and to be a career I would need to bring income. Don’t get me wrong the perks are great and I am so lucky at the opportunities but that doesn’t pay the mortgage!

At least I get to bring back out my work wardrobe and get to wear heels again! Take this incredible white blouse I was gifted from Surafina. It’s going to be a perfect staple for work. I love pieces that will match so much of my wardrobe plus looks great on. I love the cut and really can wear it any season.

What are your go to essentials for work?

beanie love

beanie love

Beanie Love

On a bad hair day I like to make life easy and add a beanie or a hat or even a headband. It is not only a quick fix but a look that is fun as well.

I have learnt that sometimes there isn’t time to wash your hair, even to do a proper hairstyle as you need to be out of the door. This is how this look went down. We had to be out of the house by 9 am and the beanie was the solution. Although I do love them anyway to stay warm in winter and they look so good!

I seem to be wearing four/five colours on a regular basis of late, but I still love adding a pop of colour. (even if that colour is one I have been living in) This jacket was a favourite I bought two seasons ago but love that it still works and brings some bright life to my otherwise dark outfit. I love when that happens. You spend good money on a jacket and it still keeps working in with everything you own.  That is why you make sure you invest in key pieces as they really will last through the seasons!

Flats…. they seem to have become my new obsession and who would have thought. I see other bloggers living in heels and don’t know how they do it sometimes running after little people and my bubba not even walking yet! I am loving the change-up and will never lose my love for heels, but will always be practical, especially  when walking around our beautiful town with my little family.

leather jacket with a pop of pink

Leather
Geelong Fashionisat

A few weeks ago I went shopping for some new jumpers… Lo and behold guess what happened? I bought a jacket instead.

Not just any jacket, but I finally have my own leather jacket. One I have been looking for a long time. Bonus it was on SALE!  I’m always happy when I find something I love and want, then to have that feeling when you see it is also on sale is the best. A win win for all involved! (yes that may just be me! )

Leather is so fun to play with as its so versatile. Can easily be dressed up and worn with a dress for going out, also easily adapted for casual, like I have done here for a family day of exploring the neighborhood.

It’s so much fun exploring my own town and finding hidden gems. Something I love getting out of the house and doing especially when the winter sun comes out. I grabbed Andrew and little Miss in the pram and off we went to have a look around and get some photos while we were at it.

Once again I wore my blue flats which I’m starting to think are the only pair in my wardrobe! I really need to make sure I not neglecting others!! It is so easy to put these on due to comfort. They look good and work with everything! Anyone would think I’m getting paid to wear them! (I’m not, I bought them and getting my wear!)

just add a frill

just add a frill…

Madison Square

Don’t you love it when you come across a beautiful item of clothing so different; you can picture yourself in it with at least four pieces you own?!

That is exactly how I felt when I laid my eyes on this white jumper. I was scrolling through Instagram and came across the jumper from Labels and Love

The arms had great detail and I loved the big over-sized look for something to snuggle into for winter. Plus it was different and I love not been a cookie cutter and trying something a little different. I bet this jumper flies out the door as it is so pretty!

Life has been getting really crazy of late, but in a really good way as I develop Geelong Fashionista and get organised for this upcoming fashion parade. It’s going to be so much fun! I love showcasing the incredible Geelong talent we have and I’m so excited to be showcasing this in the parade, while been empowered and working with the incredible ladies at Geelong Women in Business.  Make sure you keep the day free and come to the Geelong Small Business Expo. Geelong Creative’s are there, an amazing kids corner, local Geelong businesses plus Fashion! It’s everything I love!
