real mum style

Geelong Fashionista

This last week I hosted # real mum style, a hashtag made by the fabulous Bron from Flat Bum Mum to get mum’s to show off their everyday style. Not only for people to see individual style, give inspiration for outfits but most of all a great supportive network of women who love giving you self-esteem. It’s also where age has no boundaries and you can be a mum of any age to join in and show off our style.

I have been apart of this fabulous community since little miss was born. I was lucky enough to even meet some of the incredible Melbourne community a few weeks ago. Such a lovely bunch of women and some support, it was great to have a wine and talk all things mum.

There were some incredible outfits and I loved been able to comment, like and watch these mums wear current winter wardrobes. This depends on where in Australia you are from (or even further abroad) as to how rugged up you needed to be! You can pick the Melbournities!

There were lots of mum posting looks that I have been following for a long time as well as some new people I found and have since started to follow. To sum up my week I have put some of my favourite looks below. Go check out their pages.

winter tones

Autumn leaves

Winter seems to attract dark colours, I guess the gloomy days attract darker colours and hence set winter tones.

I’m not saying it’s a bad think, I think these looks can be great but I do try to add some colour to a dark outfit where possible. Hence when shopping in my friends wardrobe (Thanks Nic; I was over my own!), I borrowed the most comfy of colourful flats and now have the urge (ok need!) to go get me a pair as I didn’t want to take them off my feet!  I didn’t think I was the laced-up-shoe kinda girl but how wrong I was! Another lesson that you should try something and it may pay off! I’m not saying buy it but do try before you reject the idea.

I also borrowed her beautiful leather jacket she got made in Bali (yes, now I too have to go to Bali and get one made!) and layered up a winter look with black and grey tones.

As a mum I really am looking for comfort these days. Something that allows me to easily adapt for my little girl, whether that is going for a walk, out for coffee, playing on the floor or even heading to a play centre with other mummies and babies I want to feel like I can do anything in my outfits.

This look did all the above, plus adding a few touches, like earring, necklace and a nice clutch; I can leave little miss at home and go and enjoy me time as well!

in the navy…

Kirsty

Navy and grey have been big favourites of mine of late. I seem to be drawn toward them and building up a collection of clothes in those tones.

When thinking of what to wear, I thought what better autumn look than putting an all navy look together. Plus when you add tan tones how can you go wrong!

I like experimenting with ,my outfits and this one paid off. My favourite quilted skirt (I seem to be living in!); my last season long cardi (love wardrobe shopping, plus it was perfect for winter last season) and my navy singlet (I can’t seem to get off); all combined to create this tonal, monochrome look.  Add in my new Wittner boots (I really shouldn’t have bought but it’s very hard when you get a $30 voucher plus 30% off!) with this beautiful Michael Kors bag (my sister-in-law gave me as a beautiful gift for helping with her wedding; I know spoilt right!) and it all seemed to work really well!

Bare legs may not happen for much longer as the weather really does seem to have turned colder as we approach winter but I’ll be trying as hard as I can until June is here!

Again I was lucky to work with the talented Christina (SkinnyGirlsJeans) who did such a great job at capturing some stunning images! She knows how to capture the moments and really does have an eye for fashion photography. You only have to see her Instagram page to see her talent. My favourite image is the autumn leaves on the white house! Really captures the season and is such a strong photograph!

Luullah Belle

I am in love with Instagram… So are a lot of people you may say… but I love the incredible community it creates, the products you can discover and the people you meet along the way.

Of late I’ve met a few people who I have come across on Instagram and it’s such a fun way to collaborate and work with incredible people. That is how the very talented Christina and I met. We got talking and got together to take some shots and I couldn’t be happier. I think they’ve have turned out really well! Go have a look at her Instagram account!

This top is another one that I have discovered on instagram. When I saw it I knew I had to have it and I’m so pleased that it looks good on! You know that feeling when you buy something because you can’t stop thinking about it… but with online you can’t try it on so have to hope it works when it arrives! (Or is that just me?!) Luckily it’s worked and has come up so well in these photos.

laneways of melbourne

Melbourne

I love exploring Melbourne, especially when you come across the random laneways and amazing graffiti.
This particular laneway was fascinating, it had shoes all different colours as decoration hanging above from wall to wall.

The weather of late has been beautiful, with glorious autumn days here in Geelong and Melbourne. It’s a bit unexpected really as it had started to get quite cold!
Hence I have pulled out the boots but am still wearing skirts in this sunny weather.

This skirt was such a fun find; it’s quilted and I think will be versatile for winter with some tights underneath… (or maybe I need to add over the knee boots onto my want list! )
It’s navy and the colour has become a big staple colour in my wardrobe! My mummy style has made me think about purchases a lot, so I’m tending to stick to very neutral colours and navy is a neutral in my book!

I seem to be living in this jumper! I love that it works with anything I have on plus it’s not thick so perfect for this autumn weather.

In mummy news… it’s nearly mothers day and I have a gift guide coming with some great hints to buy your mum/wife/partner! Make sure you keep your eyes out for that!

i forgot i had that….

grey vest

I love it when you find a look on  Instagram or Pinterest and think, ‘I could do something similar, I forgot I had that!’

Or more to the point I forgot I bought that last season (when I had a big baby belly! 😉 ) let’s get it back out of the wardrobe.

That is exactly how this outfit happened! I saw a picture on Instagram last week of a lady in a long grey vest with black jeans and remembered I too had a long grey vest that I could wear! (It’s like shopping without spending money, I tell you!!) It was time to whip it out and experiment with a look.

Luckily the autumn weather has been not to cold yet so I was able to try something I wouldn’t normally. (Like I have said before, my style has changed since becoming a mum!)

A Saturday staple for me has always been jeans and a white tee (I always think of the Lana Del Ray song Blue Jeans when I say that) sorry back on track… I grabbed my new favourite colour grey vest and added it to my jeans and tee and was pretty happy with how the look turned out! I was then able to enjoy the beautiful sunny autumn day.

autumn is upon us

Geelong FAshionista

Autumn is upon us, summer has passed for another few months and boy am I going to miss it!
Hopefully the weather still stays alright for a little while so I can still head out for walks with little miss. But the cold is now in the air.
Days usually can stay ok but nights are chilly and noticing even more having to get up to feed!

Two of my favourite colours right now are  grey and white. It feels so fresh and takes away from a gloomy days, (I hate saying bye to summer so this keeps me happy with cold weather looming.)
I am loving putting together basics for my mummy days, especially when I’m not sure what I’m doing and that is exactly what this look was about. Comfortable pants and a warm jumper that can be dressed up if needed, or just simple for a quick coffee too.

The jumper was a great find from Witchery. It’s warm, perfect for winter and has the fun pirate detail at the front. I loved the colour and know it’s going to become a staple in my wardrobe!

all happening in gtown

Look

Of late, I’ve been asked a lot about my blog and what makes me different from other blogs.
Yes, it started as a fashion blog, but I also want to reflect on the goings on in my often underrated home town of Geelong (also known as Gtown!)

I get asked a lot about where to shop or where is good to eat, and I really want to include a lot more of this in my day-to-day posts. I also love talking about events that are happening or people who may visit my town.

Last Friday Ash Pollard from MKR came to visit with the Heinz Beanz Creation Food Truck. I went along to meet Ash and try some of the tasty samples on offer!

Ash was lovely!! We talked about Geelong and all there was to do, as well as Fashion Week as Ash had attended a few shows.
Plus I got to try her creation once I’d donated to the Jan Juc surf club! A great support initiative  by Heinz, where a $5 donation provided a tasty lunch!

I cant wait to share more fun around Gtown with you all!

Outfit of the Day

You can tell this hairstyle is my go to of late! Quick and easy plus I love showing off my length. My fringe had got to long hence it parts; lucky I got it cut that night ready for Fashion Week! That post coming soon.

What would you like to hear more about on Geelong Fashionista? Would you be keen to hear about Gtown?

the traveling bag

Sash and Belle

Have you ever seen the movie “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants”? Well that is how this post all started!

Instead of pants, this Sash and Belle bag traveled from Queensland, to New South Wales then to Victoria getting styled by three different ladies, all with different styles.  The traveling bag!
In Queensland it started with Mica from Away from the Blue. It then continued to NSW stopping at Allison’s from Sydney Fashion Hunter, and finished with me here in Victoria.

Trio

We all agreed the bag was exactly what we all wanted and so it traveled the east coast to create stories with us all.

For me this bag is the perfect size for where I am in my life right now. I haven’t been using handbags as the nappy bag has become my go to bag, however when I do get five minutes alone I have discovered I need something small and this worked a treat! Plus its very on trend at the moment and helps pop my outfit.

My style has changed in the last few months with not working and looking at comfort. This bag gave that perfect bit of character with my otherwise plain outfit.

simple tee

Kirsty

I love playing around with pieces from inside my wardrobe especially when you can wear something over and over again with it looking different every time, like this tee.

Mixing and matching a simple tee with anything that happens to be in my wardrobe is such a great way to create a different outfit and look. This is very much along the lines of what Project SoCo is all about, not needing to consume lots and looking good!

It also helps that I am trying to save save save toward a new house…

It’s come to my attention that we are currently outgrowing our house. Don’t get me wrong it still works, but what I would give for just one more room…  This means I need to continue my limited spending so that I can work toward a new place, especially as I not working!

In saying that, it is why I am all for using simple pieces and changing the way they look by adding a pretty skirt, or maybe a necklace, and I do love a good hat as you all know. The cut of this simple black tee is perfect and goes with nearly everything I have in my wardrobe. Plus having a t-shirt that you know is going to a great cause always makes me feel better too!

There is something about a skirt with pockets, I have sad it so often but it makes you feel good and they can be so practical especially as I find I need to carry a bib or her dummy and simply putting in my pocket really helps.
