Navy and tan

navy and tan
Geelong

What is it about navy and tan that gets me so excited?! I love the combination of the two colours together especially as we come out of winter.

All of a sudden life has got really busy with so many things on. I’m not complaining they are all very exciting but it’s as if something goes winter is over lets move onto busy warmer months!

It also makes me see that I really need to find a solution to me time. Some time to be alone and really work out exactly what I want and how I’m going to achieve it. Here I was thinking I had so much help and support to get this off the ground and don’t get me wrong I do but what I would give for 3-4 hours of uninterrupted me time would be incredible. I’m my own worst enemy though as I can’t bear to spend much time away from the cute thing that we created and she makes me laugh so much and fills my heart with so much joy. I’m really struggling with this back to work thing I think and need to remember that money is a must!  Someone has to help my shopping addiction!

Fashion is going to get me through the transition! Outfit planning on a budget and wearing fun exciting pieces; maybe even a heel every now and then! What I am looking forward to, is getting back into more of a routine and been really organised . I love having structure and I think it will help me to find the time to sit at the computer and write. This will lead to the dream of one day becoming a professional blogger!!

I ask this question to fellow mums… Do you get enough “me” time?

work life is looming

Work life is looming
Back to work
Ok don’t panic! Going back to work after maternity leave is getting closer.
One second ago I was saying goodbye to my work, about to head off on my biggest adventure. Here I am about to return twelve months later.

Am I ready? Is this what I want to be doing?
Adult conversation is going to be great and I love using my brain for ideas, but I am really ready to get back to work life?

My days with little Miss are incredible and I love them! She has so much personality and is so much fun to be around but there are days when I would love some me time.

It really has been an adventure for me and all expectations changed very quickly about what the year would be like. I’m happy I took a year and lucky to have had the support from Andrew to do so but it’s also left me with wonder about where I see myself in five years time for my career.

I have wanted Geelong Fashionista to grow and flourish and lucky for me in the last two months it has! The opportunities it has allowed me to achieve have been amazing, but I think I need to really focus on what and where I see it going… I keep bringing this up. It comes down to how am I going to bring in a wage? I write because of the love of sharing my thoughts and style, and to be a career I would need to bring income. Don’t get me wrong the perks are great and I am so lucky at the opportunities but that doesn’t pay the mortgage!

At least I get to bring back out my work wardrobe and get to wear heels again! Take this incredible white blouse I was gifted from Surafina. It’s going to be a perfect staple for work. I love pieces that will match so much of my wardrobe plus looks great on. I love the cut and really can wear it any season.

What are your go to essentials for work?

in the navy…

Kirsty

Navy and grey have been big favourites of mine of late. I seem to be drawn toward them and building up a collection of clothes in those tones.

When thinking of what to wear, I thought what better autumn look than putting an all navy look together. Plus when you add tan tones how can you go wrong!

I like experimenting with ,my outfits and this one paid off. My favourite quilted skirt (I seem to be living in!); my last season long cardi (love wardrobe shopping, plus it was perfect for winter last season) and my navy singlet (I can’t seem to get off); all combined to create this tonal, monochrome look.  Add in my new Wittner boots (I really shouldn’t have bought but it’s very hard when you get a $30 voucher plus 30% off!) with this beautiful Michael Kors bag (my sister-in-law gave me as a beautiful gift for helping with her wedding; I know spoilt right!) and it all seemed to work really well!

Bare legs may not happen for much longer as the weather really does seem to have turned colder as we approach winter but I’ll be trying as hard as I can until June is here!

Again I was lucky to work with the talented Christina (SkinnyGirlsJeans) who did such a great job at capturing some stunning images! She knows how to capture the moments and really does have an eye for fashion photography. You only have to see her Instagram page to see her talent. My favourite image is the autumn leaves on the white house! Really captures the season and is such a strong photograph!

maxi and me

Tee and Me

Maxi dresses and I have not always been friends. It comes from the fact I am short and they seem to always be too long. Therefore they are rarely seen in my wardrobe!

However every blue moon one pops up that does want to be my friend and actually works on my small statue. This is so with this beautiful peach lace maxi dress. With an asymmetric hem line, coming up at the front, and adjustable straps the length is perfect on me. Although I have heels on for these images, it does also fit well with cute flat sandals as well. Don’t you just love those finds!

I came across Tee and Me on facebook and loved their story. A mum and daughter started out selling printed maxi and sundresses on the Sydney market circuit and have built their brand from there, and they have an eye for beautiful pieces. This dress been the perfect example!

Now my clutch i get here is going to have it’s very own post I think as it is incredible in itself. My brother introduced me to Design A Space and I was amazed at incredible pieces they stock from up and coming designers. This cork clutch the perfect example of amazing talent. But like I said, I think it needs its own story!

i love melko

Melko

Don’t you love it when you find something you love, and when you wear it everyone feels that love for it as well?

That is how I feel about this dress. I put it on Friday morning and headed to work and all day I had people stop me to ask where I got my dress from. They were loving the pattern, the cut and the way it looked so comfortable!

As a fashion blogger I like to show readers beautiful clothes as well as new brands to go have a look at. This dress is no exception. What attracted me to this garment was the pattern and I love how perfect it is for the office. Easily adapted with boots, or flats as well as the heels as I’m wearing.

Melko is an Australian company that sources clothing from South America. (Only working with companies and brands which employ safe and fair workplace conditions!)

Their collections have a south american flair, fun and of an extremely high quality, perfect for Melbourne!! It really is a great brand with incredible pieces and this dress is so perfect as we now hit autumn weather!

christmas party

Mister Zimi

A quick post today to show you the outfit I wore to my Christmas party yesterday. I’m really pleased with how it turned out.

I have worn this Mister Zimi dress a couple of times now, but decided to wear with a belt today and really happy with how it came together.

It is supposed to be summer but we can’t seem to get over 24 degrees this last week! But I have stuck to my word and not wearing tights! Boots have come back but tights are still on a ban!

The colours in this dress are so fun and I think it works for any season. I added my leather jacket for warmth, I had forgotten this was in the wardrobe! I love how leather doesn’t out date!

It was a great outfit for the Christmas party and worked perfectly for the day.

the geelong cup

St Frock Skirt

At the last-minute I decided to attend the 2014 Geelong Cup. It is our big local race event but it wasn’t until I got offered a ticket did I think I would go. 😉

Then came the challenge, trying to put together an outfit and of course I needed a matching fascinator to go with the look! I had brought this beautiful skirt from St Frock not that long ago (I feel in love when I saw it) and thought this was the perfect event to debut the stunning skirt. I decided I needed a headpiece needed to match and that’s when the fun began. With one full day before the cup to go I messaged a local Geelong milliner, Lalka who I come across through Instagram. I wrote a plea saying sorry it was last-minute but did she have anything in blue to match my beautiful skirt. Not only did Lisa say she would help, she custom-made me a design one day before the event! And I loved it!! I couldn’t have asked for a more stunning fascinator and I highly recommend having a look at her pieces especially if you are needing something for the big Melbourne events. Find her Facebook page here

I even had to go buy my top on the day! I have already had several comments on my cami and I knew exactly what I wanted as I already have one in black! It’s from Bardot and is a great shape and fit. Perfect for any age!

The main reason I wanted to go along to the Geelong Cup was to see the fashion. As my local town I wanted to show of some of the incredible pieces to you my readers! I took photos of some of the inspiring outfits on the day, and you’ll find them below.

The Moore Sisters

These four sisters were so lovely and I loved their outfits. Their head wear is what caught my attention and I asked where they found such incredible pieces. Turns our their mum is an incredible Geelong milliner and made them all. Find Moore Millinery Designs on facebook here. Bronwyn, Andrea, Courtney and Shandell all look amazing! Two of them (Andrea and Courtney ) won places (1st and 3rd) in Fashions on the Field.

Bree Laughlin

Bree was from Country Racing and was doing  fashion blogger commentary for Country Racing Fashion Blogger. Her dress is from Cue, shoes from Witchery and her headwear which caught my attention was Jack and Jill Millinery.

Dearne Bell

Dearne was in the marquee that I was in and what caught my attention was her incredible fascniator made from feathers. I should have taken the photo outside the marquee to capture the real beauty of the feathers but she looked fantastic! I asked her about her outfit and she was a great example of finding great products at chain stores and putting them all together to look fab!

Karen Mason

Karen is from BayFM (Geelong Local Radio) and was dressed by one of the fashion students from The Gordon. She looked wonderful and again made it to the final of Fashions on the Field in this beautiful dress. Karen and Hayden both looked great. Hayden too made it through to the men’s final of fashions on the field!

Kimberley Riddett

It was Kimberley’s fascinator that caught my attention. A beautiful piece with great colours and so well constructed!

Jessie McInnes

I had meet Jessie before as she has just finished as a fashion student at The Gordon. She designed and created her outfit and even made it through to the final in Fashions on the Field!

Jessie McInnes

Although only a few beautiful ladies above there was some class this year about the races which is great to see as Geelong can cop a lot of slack about our fashion!

I am really looking forward to bringing you more of what Geelong is all about in upcoming posts!

once musical

Once Musical

I was lucky enough to head off to see Once Musical opening night over the weekend which has started playing in Melbourne.

I took along Nic and was so excited to see this acclaimed performance especially as two Geelong girls I have the privileged of working with (albeit a long time ago!) in this incredible show.

It only took seconds to see why this musical has won incredible awards and traveled the world. It is running until December here in Melbourne and I really encourage you to go along and check it out. The humor, the music, the performers all blew my mind and captured me into the experience. What made me love the musical even more was that the cast played all the music. Each character had an instrument they played as they danced and sang on stage; proving just how talented these really were.

Once is set in modern-day Dublin and is about a Guy wanting to give up his music when a Girl comes along and inspires him to dream again. Tom Parsons and Madeline Jones played the leads and their voices worked so well together.

As mentioned I have met two of the performers who are originally from Geelong; Amy Lehpamer and Lisa Hanley.  Amy played Reza and did such a wonderful job of having a Czech accent and playing the violin while making the audience laugh. While I didn’t get to see Lisa perform (she is the understudy for Girl) I know she too would be incredible and blow the audience away with her talent!

As it was opening night I wanted to wear something that was fun and luckily enough the weather was beautiful!

I love this skirt and I think one of my favourite things about it is the pockets!

I am also still loving these mules which are so comfortable! I was happy with how my outfit came together!

colour pop weekend style

Geelong Fashionista

I love colour and this Elm Knitwear jumper is all about colour pop. The beautiful knitted fabric gives warmth while steering clear of the traditional Melbourne black. Although Winter has ended I’m looking forward to wearing this knit with shorts and skirts to still keep warm in the brisk spring evenings and mornings.

I love when winter ends and spring begins. There is excitement in the air that warmer days are coming. The weather was beautiful over the weekend and it really did feel like summer was on its way. People were all over the beach and enjoying living back outdoors which living by the beach does to you. I love walking down here and just staring out to the ocean.

another winters day

Winter

What a weekend! Sometimes they just seem to be so busy as well as lots of fun!!

After a night out in Melbourne and a bit of a fuzzy head I got Andrew to get some snaps in the beautiful Carlton Gardens. Again a simple winters day outfit is what I’m most happy in on the weekends.

I love beanies to not only add some colour but also for the warmth! This one was a great find whilst in Tokyo last year.

Are you a beanie person? What are your favorites?
